Stayed late after work tonight and fitted brembo front calipers and DBA 5000 2 piece discs, very simple job 2 hours in total, no problems at all, back plates clear the new discs.

The difference already in braking feel is outstanding, have to bed in yet but already the pedal is much more responsive, takes much less effort on the pedal before you can feel the brakes bite.

gotta fit rears now, and exhaust, and 99 rear lights,and diffuser,and the list goes on............ Wish I had more free time.

Were these from an R33? Any idea what the deal is with the rears regarding the handbrake? Straight swap or more involved?

R33 GTR Brembo front and rears are a straight swap. The only thing to bare in mind is that the thread inside the R33 caliper is different to those in the Z32 so if you get a set, make sure you get all the mounting bolts too.

They were from a 350z, just had to enlarge mounting bolt holes to 14mm, sticking with stock rears at the minute just a disc and pad upgrade as from what I can make out the rears are a good setup from stock and there is little gain to be had from replacing the calipers etc, unless maybe used on track.

You mean you've left her dirty????

:scared::no::slap:

To be honest I hated to have to bring her out so soon this year, but summer and show season will be upon us before we know it so getting in early to get jobs done.

From what I understand changing the rears is a pointless exercise at that point. The r33 brembo ones are so similar to the Nissan ones that no gain is made other than being matching brembos. Retro fitting z33 rear brembos are a more complicated fit so I'm led to believe. Unless your adding huge 6 pot calipers upfront I wouldn't worry too much about the rear.

Yeah, personally that would always worry me, I know if done correctly the weld should be sound but I would just always have that doubt in my mind, a lot of work and potential worry for little gain I think.

anyone know what size bolts are needed for the R33 GTR Brembo front and rears wanna replace?

dan. :)

That's true, I fitted them to mine simply for continuity and the fact they were sold as a set. You can utilise the oem z32 rear disc for R33 brembos as the disc diameter only varies by a couple of mm.

When you purchase a set, just ask the seller to supply the mounting bolts. To buy a ship set from Nissan becomes really quite expensive. If you're considering purchasing some generic (non OEM) bolts of the correct grade then the physical dimensions of the bolts are the same, it's the thread pitch that is different. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the difference is.

Plus if the mot guy spots it it's a fail I believe. Illogical as all the other arms are welded but hey.

Not a failure providing everything is secure, as you mentioned, plenty of welds everywhere on a car.

It's a good point, but mine was done well (very neatly) and never failed.

Incidentally, I'm not the only person to have done this, there was one in Holland, Nend perhaps ? In fact I think the photo may have been of his not mine as it looks like the hub had been blasted and I don't remember doing that for mine.
