Following on from a recent new member's post looking for a car etc, I thought I'd just have a gander at the market. I do every so often, just to see what's about. Ebay always has some, but thought I'd check out Autotrader first as generally, it seems to be where serious sellers would go.

Well, I wasn't expecting to see what I saw...or didn't see. There's not a single one for sale in the whole country on Autotrader. Availability really has dropped significantly. Granted, the time of year really doesn't help, but I was surprised at seeing a big fat ZERO there!

So, back to ebay - not normally the best gauge of 'quality Z32s', but thought I'd have a look. A really low number, the lowest I've EVER seen. There are only 7 for sale! 3 Twin Turbos - no manual TTs, the rest are NAs. Apart from a hideous satin black one, they all looks reasonable (Strosek is a known vehicle and looks clean). The blue UK TT Auto needs saving from chavism!

But that's the fruit of what's currently available! REALLY low numbers now. 1 on pistonheads - Z31s seem to be starting to command a premium!

I think if you want a good one these days, be prepared to import a clean one direct from Japan!

theres plenty of good ones in the UK...just none for sale it seems.

You're dead right Si - I looked on Autotrader just now and it didn't even give me the choice of selecting a 300 in the range of available Nissans nationwide!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Slim pickings if you're a buyer! I was lucky when I was buying mine. Whilst there were a LOT more sheds about back then, people were still importing them on the grey-import market. That's died now in terms of performance cars and no one's bringing anymore over (if you need a Mazda Bongo Friendee, then you're fine). Z32s have reached the bottom of their depreciation curve too.

I'd hate to be a buyer now as it would be so much more hassle!

Numbers have been in rapid decline for a while now, and the average price is on the up. We've been forecasting it for a while but it is finally starting to happen.

Indeed they have, but I wasn't expecting such a lack of results in trying to find one to purchase as I do keep my eyes on the market. :)

The situation is much worse in Ireland. Every time I've seen an ad for a decent manual TT pop up, it's sold in about three hours.

What sort of pricing are they going for there? I know your road tax cost is absurd over there, so interested to know!

Mostly around €3,000 or less, €5,000 for some of the better ones. A good rx7 will get twice that so tax is probably a big factor.

Slightly lower than UK prices. I am slightly surprised if they're selling like hot cakes! Looks like the demand outstrips supply!

You notice there has been an increase in people arriving here looking, that tends to show how it's obviously harder to find good ones.

These cars are definitely worth looking after and hanging onto now, each winter claims another zed somewhere, which is why I don't use mine at this time of year, I had no end of disappointment looking for my zed last year, ended up buying a NA auto which is opposite to what I was looking for but it's condition age and mileage meant I just had to buy it, slowly I will get it where I want it to be performance wise, a solid original rust free zed is becoming a very rare thing. need to go and make sure my zed is warm and cosy now :whistling:

Why I'm lucky to have my two, always amazed how over looked they are, and how much car you're getting for the money. Mine aren't going anywhere they're mine long term.

& I imported mine last year:)

And use it when it's dry!

Not in this awful weather

I regularly have a look at the Japanese auctions.

I've noticed the price of Z32's over their has jumped by about 5% over the past 12 months. Although with it, the quality of car seems to have increased too.

If I were to ever decided to have another, I'd likely go the import route.

Don't forget Si, it's winter....and a bloody cold one too. So lots of Zeds are hiding away and Sorn'd. If the past is anything to go by, April/May will see an increase in sales as people try to use the coming summer to promote the joys of Targa's

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)
