Alright guys and gals. Finally got a z32. 1991. Twin turbo manual. Very happy. It does however look a bit tired on the paint but nothing I can't sort there. Done 90000. Mechanically it's great. No smoke. Boost needle where it should be. Sounds great. New timing belt. Very happy. However. What are the tell tail signs the clutch is going?

Pictures later date as I don't know how to put them on as I am on my phone aha

Yeah will do. Will turn boost down tomorrow before work.

I thought that this could be the fuel mixture being too rich or too lean

Exactly. If it's somehow too lean if the map is poor, then you'll be nursing a holed piston sooner rather than later.

Wherever you take it, it is imperative they have the equipment and knowledge to monitor AFR & knock. If you get dismissed with "nah, it'll be fine mate", then you know they aren't doing it right :)

Sorry misread that, I read that as you had hit a rock with one of the stock ones and were told to replace it with a front mount.

Right... I have pictures of everything

on the boost controller it was set to 1.75 Barr. On the dyno graph it's at 15 psi.

on the controller I turned it down to 0.65 Barr. Just to be safe

Wow. I've seen some poorly set up cars in my time, but that is appalling.

It's far too rich on all but the blue run, and even that is isn't good. The green run is bad. The boost response is terrible, all gain and no duty or a severe boost leak. That may account for the high setting on the controller with a peak of 15psi. You've actually got peak power at 4921rpm before it takes a nose dive, no wonder it feels bad to drive. You'll notice that the other runs are making the same power at 6700-7000rpm. Genuinely can't believe that was "tuned" like that on a dyno.

The fuel pressure is the real oddity though.

If I were you Joel (oh, I am Joel!).. I would take a day or 2 off, set off nice and early for a road trip down to Noel (Noz) to setup this engine properly, or at least to advise you with some guidance of what steps need to be taken in order to prevent imminent multiple 4 figure sums being chewed up by your new acquisition!

i use the same guy in doncaster, recently had an engine there for my zed. very happy with the work. great friendly service

Yeah cheers mate. I really don't understand how this was set up like this. Absolutely awful.

Yeah they do quite a good job mate. They were working on a skyline when I went earlier

personally what I think is that they have upted to boost and fuel pressure but not remapped it. Figures like this would not happen with a mapped ecu. Surely not

Yeah. They are at the other side of town but it ain't too bad. There is another company just up road from me who remap. Make exhausts and everything. But that's all they do

Where is this place in Doncaster that work on Zeds?

Johnyboy, how many times have you used this guy, what other stuff have you had done?

I think the OP missed the sarcasm in your earlier posts....

Today before work I turned the boost down... was running at 1.75 Barr. Turned it down to 0.9 Barr. Boost is running fine. Felt much better today. StStill running at 6 bar of fuel. Leans out if any lower. Rang mechanic and they gonna see me Tuesday if need be Wednesday aswell. I think it could be a blocked injector the reason it's misfiring on idle. Also perhaps a vacuum leak?, would that explain the crazy fuel?

Nothing explains 6bar base fuel pressure.

Let us know how it goes...

I agree mate. Fingers crossed eh

Right then. Took her to the mechanic today.

They went under her and they said there is no rust at all under the car. I had a look and yeah, clean as anything. However. The rear diff is leaking oil slightly, the sump has a small leak but the rear crank is leaking quite a bit. Mechanic said that when they do the clutch they will do this labor free. Exhaust is rotten at the back slightly. She is misfiring slightly still but one of the coilpack connectors has had it by the looks of things. Also the rear hicas bushs need replacing, then he told me about the n/a sswap :D. But they said. Mechanically and structurally it's great

also with the 6 bar of fuel. It could be the gauge is reading wrong as it is a cheap one. Gonna replace it with my spare SARD regulator.

Today I sswapped the zed afr to my spare SARD one. It's now running at 3 bar of fuel so lucky for me it was a faulty gauge :)

Some good news Joel :thumbup1:

Yeah mate. Next stop clutch and crank seal :)

Alright then. Got my sard fuel regulator on. Happy with the results of quality objects. Also noticed why there is a slight misfire. The injector connector has worn very badly, also the metal bit on it is missing so it's a bit loose. Took it off and green stuff everywhere. Cleaned that and put some of this grease in it to help prevent moisture. Feels much better but needs a new connector. Also the coil pack connectors need to be change :)
