So guys I know this is probably a well covered subject but iv just done my manual conversion and noticed I'm getting much better milage from 20 quid, I'm assuming this is due to the falling price of fuel and that most manual cars are better on fuel over there auto brothers. I was getting 45 miles from 20 quid where as now I'm getting over 70 (that was with a little a23 driving) Just thought this interesting as anything to make 300's cheeper is a win :) i will try work out my actual mpg.

Think I managed about 35 MPG mostly motorway in a 150 mile round trip!

Mines an auto, no engine mods:)

I think the manuals are better on fuel, u can get it in 5th early and when u accelerate a little it will pick up staying in 5th but the auto's all ways rev higher and drop back gears,

At £1.30 per litre, 45 miles from £20 is 13.3mpg. There was a problem :wack:

I managed about 16mpg last night, 90% 'spirited' driving :shifty:

Forget how many miles you get to £20......

....The best way to check "real" mpg is to brim the tank to the max, drive for a fair while (like until in the red) and then re-fill once more. You know exactly how much fuel you have used (rather than guessing how far that £20 got you); so you are in a better position to calculate true mpg based on actual usage!

And kudos to Art for getting 35mpg from a 300zx! Did you drive everywhere at 56mph - or switch off the engine to coast down-hill:wink: I struggle to achieve that in my DD - let alone in a 20 year old 3.0 twin turbo nutter dinosaur; wherein the best I have managed is about 23mpg....

And around here, unleaded is now circa £1.12 per litre.....

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Today been to Ashford & back!

Probably made less than 20! But at speed who counts the cost?:)

Just fill it up whenever.

I get better mpg in my manual TT than from Jan's auto na

Fill my TT up in Filey and drive to Morden in South London and got a quarter of a tank left Do the same in Jan's and it's almost on empty

And that's with both using vpower

well i tend to put fuel in then the light comes on so as soon as it comes on i know iv used it up. and yeah with the zed cant expect it to be amazing but mpg seems to be a bit varied, i think a manual can be babied to return almost acceptable mpg :)

Mine honestly isn't too bad. I can(or rather could, it's broken) get obscenely poor mpg, I've used quater of a tank on the way back from the in laws in the past and it's not exactly far. Conversely Coventry meet this year I used about £60-70 quids worth for the whole round trip. I can't really remember or define if going manual has increased fuel economy, I seem to remember that it is at higher rpm on the motorway post conversion. So much has changed though it's hard to pin point what the majour factor was.

When I first got the car it wasn't running it's best, Cornwall and back we used about £130 worth of fuel, roughly 150 miles each way. I think tbh one if the worst things for fuel economy is poor mechanical health. Boost leaks and failing components.

A zed is most fuel efficient when cruising at a steady speed, preferably on a motorway. Round town driving absolutely kills the mpg and I can get through half a tank in my tt just driving it around on a weekend ......

Dead right Tony!

In fact, even maintaining steady "higher" speeds, say at a steady 3000-3500rpm (I'm sure you all know how fast that is in top... ), a twin turbo Zed is not the prolific drinker one may think! On a 250 mile journey at (that) speed, my Zed still returned around 24mpg. It was quite a bit more efficient than Julia's Rav-4 covering the same trip at a similar speed.....

Agreed I have actually found better economy at that kind of rev range you mention than a lower 2k rpm.

at 3500 revs revs in top I get just under 30mpg !

Let's just say that for the journey in question, I *might* actually have been doing a little more than that......:whistling:

35+mpg is quite achievable if as mentioned on a motorway and in a manual. I did that a few years ago driving in france.

don't know what I get, don't care, its fun and its only a weekend car, used to drop 18mpg on my Honda VTR SP-1 if I rode it like id nicked it ( the only way) so I guess we can only hope the fuel continues to drop, quick question though is the v-power fuel worth using on a twin turbo auto ??

cheers and best wishes for christmas and the new year to all...
