Anyone in the north east able to lend a bid of zed knowledge, im more of a honda/mitsubishi kind of man and this is my first nissan.

Basically i bought the car yesterday of a fella who used it once a year and garaged it the rest, the ecu is flashing code 11.

If anyone is local and fancies having a look at it for me that'd be excellent, i'll pay your juice and troubles ?

Kind of need it back up and running as the brother needs to use it while hes over from australia

Thanks in advance

I expect the job was done, just badly or with inferior parts.

You might get lucky, you might not. There is fortunately ways to tell how unlucky you have been. You could get your hands on an inspection camera, pop the plugs out and see what you can see on the piston crowns. You could also preform a leak down test to see what cylinders still hold pressure. Even turning it over with a socket on the crank could give you a degree of information.

hi muzza.

welcome to our world, I live in Gateshead had my zed since 2002, had a similar prob needing new belt a few years back, it went doing 60mph no valve damage I think you'll be ok

, as for n/east mechanics forget it ive done the rounds.

anything went wrong id send mine to jeffs usually £250 a pop lifted at zedworld Birmingham worth it for peace of mind ,

hope everything turns out ok.

just remembered macdonald racing at lanchester.co Durham did a few bits for me over the years .

good luck

the zed is my fun time but I never got enough of that. But I am retired now so who knows

anyway back to muzzatttarga, lets hope he gets sorted

Valves are bent!!!

Whats a car like this worth with knackered engine?

Shells mint condition, interior mint condition.

Devestated!!! Only bought the ****er last week

How do they know the valves are bent without taking them out?

Speculation I suppose. You could do a leak down then oil in the bore to force a seal, if it still leaks like a sieve then it's elsewhere. HG or valves and well with that recent event odds on, also from where the air leaks to let's you know a few things... That being said, you would have to pull off the upper timing belt cover and find each cylinders TDC manually because the cams will no longer be in time as such with a snapped belt. I'd want to know exactly what method they used to ascertain that is factually the case.

You can pretty much guarantee some bent valves in an interference engine, the extent and how many is another issue, but the heads would need to come off and each valve taken out to be sure. Also if its that bad then you might be looking at damaged cam lobes as a more obvious visual before taking heads off

I guess they only way they checked was pulled the belt covers off and tried to turn each cam manually. I tried myself when i went to pick it up from them and 3 cams were turning no issues except the exhaust cam on passenger side. From my knowledge i would of said bent valves on that side? Or am i wrong?

Ive not had a chance at pulling it apart at all either.

What would a leak down test achieve?

Just proves that the cylinder is or is not holding pressure and points to where a loss if one exists is. As Groover says the only real way to say what's happened is disassemble it.

The turning of the cams i presume were done with the bottom sprocket at TDC, otherwise you would get interference from one or more of the valves opening against the top of the piston.

Either way i would strip the heads off and know for sure :thumbup1:

As far as im aware yes, i'll check the crank position in the morning.

Easy enough to get heads off?

Done it in hondas/evos a plenty but never on V engines. Can imagine it to be similar

Take the cams out 1st then pressure test each pot with compressed air down the plug holes....give you a better idea before lifting the heads or actually its easier to pull the motor out to remove heads on these cars.
