"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

See, I really like the standard wheel -

Really?

It's like Nissan gave up when they got to the steering wheel and just fitted something generic and dull. I don't dislike it, but it really is dreary and lifeless. They fitted a VERY similar wheel to the Nissan Vanette.

It just leaves me rather bereft....

Similar design in the old P10 Primera too! Pretty sure that wheel found its way into some Micra models too.

Brilliant work Si I like that and as for going smaller I find it obscures the indicator lights on the dash.

The airbag wheel blocks a lot of the dash from view anyway. Looks good though

That's actually very nice - I find the stock wheel so utterly dull, but that really is very good.

I really like the stock wheel, the simplicity of it pleases me. Ok it looks a bit old hat in comparison to a modern car wheel but then I don't like the bulky nature of most wheels. It looks correct and period, because it is.

Looks good Simon. I'm still unsure about the centre pad but I think a GZA steering wheel emblem would further improve the look [emoji106]

In my opinion, the untrimmed centre would look a little out of place with the rest of the wheel spruced up. Plus it helps to distinguish my wheel(s) from stock ones or ones retrimmed elsewhere :)

A red badge would be nice, but not a priority at the moment.

See, I really like the standard wheel - It could maybe be slightly smaller, but I think it's a really nice looking wheel. Even better now, of course... ;)

Me too - lovely job there Si..... I must have you do one for me sometime.......

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

What does that look like Joel....?

I believe it's what AndrewG has on his steering wheel, Rich :)

Indeed it is, mine is the red one available here:

Very OEM+ if I may say so.

Hehe, I added a black and a red one to my recent Z1 order in preparation for when Mondo retrims my OEM wheel, or I find a mint early wheel. I couldn't decide what colour I wanted though!

I wish I'd known that - I'd have asked to jump in on your order as that emblem is the only I want (can afford) at the moment.

Not an update as such, but I've just been informed that one of my suppliers has been able to lay his hands on another hide of Andrew Muirhead leather the exact code and shade as the stuff that I've used already! :hyper:

That means that I can now easily go ahead with my planned interior revamp over the winter. And yes, I'm aware that the current trim hasn't been in for very long at all...

Busy Winter looms :)

It won't be massively different to how it is now - there won't be any diamonds or anything like that! More just a perfecting of the overall design. :)

I still want to keep it subtle inside (well, as subtle as a dark red interior can be!) but still be enough to make people want to look twice when they see it up close :thumbup1:

This, of course, will mean that my current seat covers will end up for sale, so for anyone with Recaro Speed seats who fancies some nice leather and Alcantara covers.... ;)

Hmm, sounds interesting.

I love your interior as it is, your not going for the full red dash?

God, no!! The red that's in there now will continue to be as much red as there'll ever be. The dash and whathaveyou will, eventually, be trimmed in the same charcoal grey as the steering wheel. Eventually.....

Glad to hear it mate.

I may have another pair of recaro speeds to keep you busy in the near future. I just need to decide exactly what I want.

Are they a pain to refurb or ok. I assume they are exactly the same as yours

Question for you Si. Hypothetically speaking,

If someone were to get a hold of these:

...and also a set of these:

How easy would it be to swap the frame rails AND all the electrics/motors/buttons over to the Recaro seat to give the OEM functionality and fitment with a Recaro seat?

Speeds are much easier to retrim than OEM Zed seats, Pete. I'd happily retrim Recaro seats all day every day as they're such a well-made seat.

Add to that the fact that replacement foam is readily available and it's super-easy to get an absolutely mint pair of seats :)

Unlike our next caller.....

Hypothetically speaking: lots of hard work! And even then, it wouldn't be exactly as you want it...

The best I think you could hope for would be to have electric movement (forwards and backwards) for the seat base. Nissan's motors wouldn't be easily compatible with the Recaro backrest adjustment, if at all, so you'd still have to rely on the manual wheel for that.

The raising and lowering function should still work on the driver's base but I'd expect the hybrid seat to sit a few inches higher than it normally would afterwards due to the dimensions of the Nissan rail and motor assembly.

Best person to speak to is Gibster TT as, if memory serves, his Corbeau recliners have had the Nissan electric rails fitted to them.
