"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

In light of recent revelations, I'm a little (a lot!) concerned about some of the work that's been done on my car by a certain mechanic in the past. So I'm driving down to Bristol in the wee small hours of tomorrow morning so the entire car can be thoroughly looked over by a professional!

I'm really hoping that nothing shady comes to light.... :scared:

Let's hope Lee Dent didn't steal any of your parts!

Today I popped my dyno cherry! Went up to Washington and stuck the old girl on the rollers to see what sort of power she's making.

Given the mods, I expected around 380 or so at the flywheel. What I got was 371 at the wheels (calculated up to 405bhp at the flywheel) and a healthy dollop of torque to go with it!

Pretty happy with that, to be honest

I'm happy with that. Quicker than standard and hasn't cost me a small fortune to achieve either. :)

It's certainly the first time she's been flat out to the redline in 4th during my ownership... quite nerve-wracking to watch, to be honest!

Remind us - what modifications have you had done to obtain those results?

3" expansion downpipes and a full 3" system, Selin dual intake, Godspeed intercoolers, 15 psi jets and a John Dixon chip in the ECU.

I had to drive to Burnley this morning (purple velvet-related... long story!) so I decided to drop my rear centre panel in to Phutumsch's gaff so he could redo my logo as the red has gone all marbley (technical term).

Had to come home via the Lake District as one of the roads in Colne was shut by the police and, for some reason, the satnav wouldn't offer any alternative route!

Glad I didn't take the Zed for such a long trip....

Spring is at last upon us. No more wintry weather or salty roads... hang on a sec...!!

Anyhoo, it'll soon be time to un-mothball the old girl and attend to a couple of bits of paintwork and suchlike, ready for a summer of topless motoring. :)

Or to stick her up for sale. One of the two. I know I've muttered about this before but I really have to accept the fact that I don't have a great deal of free time to spend driving her, and sitting around idle probably won't do her much good in the long run as cars are designed to be driven and enjoyed.

I really don't know! Whilst it would certainly gut me to watch someone else drive off in her, it would gut me just as much if she deteriorated simply due to the fact that I have no time to stretch her legs...

Si, you’ve done all the hard work, enjoy on your days off, in fairness, there’s not much left to do except maybe a respray and a bigger set of brakes to go behind those massive 19’s :innocent::whistling::tt2::biggrin:

It doesn’t need feeding or anything:tt2:, I’m planning on buying a new house with a bit of land to build a nice garage, and the cars can stay in there until I feel the need to take them for a spin. The big bucks are spent putting back to showroom condition, once they’re at that stage you can do minor things to improve them, that won’t cost the bank:yes:

Hopefully you’ll keep her, as she’s a lovely example:thumbup1:

Don’t sell mate. Too nice of a car. Maybe try and make time to drive it a bit more and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

I don't have any days off. Working 7 days a week for the foreseeable future, man!

See the answer above, guys. Once the weather improves, I can drive her to work and back... which isn't a particularly long journey on some pretty crappy road surfaces... :( Hardly the life she was built for, is it...?

Even so, life’s too short to drive boring cars. Whenever it’s s sunny day just get the roof off and go for a blast to remind yourself why you bought it in the first place.

You shouldn't sell your Z for the same reason I shouldn't sell mine; I'll only end up buying another, probably at a higher price.
