"You picked a fine time to leave me, Loose Wheel!" - Mondo's new Zed.

Yesterday saw me head down to Kent to pick up my new Shortie! :D I got on the motorway to come back home about 4pm.

At 9pm, I was safely tucked away... on the hard shoulder of the A1(M) near York with a grand total of 1 wheelnut holding my rear passenger wheel on!!! The other 4 studs decided to shear off while I was in the outside lane - there was an almighty bang, the back-end of the car went completely loose so I had no choice but to dive for the shoulder! :(

The recovery truck arrived at 11pm and I slowly edged my new tripod onto the flatbed, before we headed off back to mine.

Spoke to Mr F this morning and he's ordered me 10 new rear studs, so my new car is currently undrivable. Seems it had cheap slot-on spacers on the back, no spigot rings and the end result was 4 wheelstuds missing.

Gotta love Zeds, eh...?!

That's nothing to do with zeds, that's to do with bad modifications. Could of been way worse, make sure to correct the cause.

If I'd known it had them on before I set off, I'd have jacked it up there and then and got shot of them. Still, it could have been much worse so I'm thankful for small mercies. :)

Anyhoo, not the best picture but the first chance I've had so:

My two Zed driveway! Til the black one finds a new home anyway...

Sounds like you ended up breaking down exactly where I did in my Slicktop in July! About 10 miles South of Wetherby services.

New Zed looking nice Si.

I'll have to take a drive over to yours soon and have a mooch.

I was 1 mile north of Junction 47, Lexx - absolutely couldn't believe it! Gutted that I can't even drive the thing! But yeah, pop over any time, mate.

Tom: even looking all forlorn with her hazards blinking away, I thought to myself "that's a nice looking car!" :D

But hey, the forged engine in her (oh yes, paperwork to prove it too!) pulls very well indeed! I took the shortshifter out today as I didn't like it so that's one job ticked off the list at least. :)

God you were lucky! New Z looks funky! Strangely - I kinda like those wheels, very retro! Generally hate 3-spokes!

Thats horrible, but atleast your ok and didn't have a nasty accident. As for the black one im hopping i haven't missed the boat.

Try force zelda by trial tuning wheels the same wheels I have on my slicktop are they 17 or 18s .

They're 17s, Taff - 9x17 on the back and 8x17 on the front. But they're not staying on the car as they won't clear the 345mm Brembo discs.

Good to know what make they are though :)

I'm now the proud owner of a pair of brown undercrackers!

And thank you - she's a very nice looking motor. Some little niggles I need to sort out (typical spoiler rot, for a start!) but the base car's very solid so, once she has new wheel studs, I can get on with the serious business of enjoying her properly!

 I bet..

looking forward to pics Si :thumbup1: REALLY need to get mine sorted...

Mine are 18 x8 all round and only just fit under my r33 gtr brakes

Close call. I would be inclined to get the car up in the air and have a good look around to make sure there are no more surprises lurking. And when the wheels go back on, make sure they're tight/torqued. Possibly caused by simple bad maintenance with insecure wheel bolts!

Did that yesterday, JP :) Even with a spacer on, the other side was secure all round... but they're gone now anyway.

The wheels aren't staying, Gary - they won't clear my Brembo brakes. So the 19s off the black one will replace them for the time being, til I can get a new set for her :)

My brother just bought an old corvett. It had gone into the workdhop for a respray .this had no sprigot things but did have large wheel spaces. The fist time he gave it a proper run.the studs snaped wripping the wheel from under the arch through the wing.sending the wheel bouncing down the road and leaveing him in the middle if a two way traffic road with all the suspention on the deck.lucky the wheel came to a holt and didnt hit anything. Car back in the bodyshop. Lesson lernt.check check and check.im glad for you no one was hurt.

woohoo nothing like some excitement! and a silver shortie. So what are your plans for this then? get the list started ;)

Some paintwork sorted out.

Trim the interior.

Drive and enjoy!
