The plot thickens. Thats a idea.never thouhht of that.see this is why i ask some silly questions

Heating with a hot air gun is the way to go and if you leave some of the glue behind, use nail polish remover, auto panel wipe, lighter fluid, even baby wet wipes work but I find orange kitchen cleaner works well and is probably the cheapest too.

Only problem with that Dave is most people don't have an orange kitchen so wouldn't have that in their cupboard!!!

Lighter fluid that will remove most sticky residue.. I've used it on my rear quarters to remove exactly the same crap!

Lighter fluid.jesus i was thinking of using my curtains to get rid of the sticky stuff.dont want to burn me house down.lol

Lol No seriously it will remove the sticky shit that's left behind . As Mark said hot air gun or hairdrier to remove the film and if theres any sticky stuff left lighter fluid will work mate, its similar to petrol. when I had my RX8 some vandals sprayed my whole car in carpet glue... I used almost a gallon of petrol to get rid of it.... it worked and it never harmed the paintwork.

I used Nitromors to get mine off ! It had baked on and was not coming off with white spirit or similar solvents even on a very hot day when the windows were nice and warm. I didn't have the patience to sit there and scrape mm at a time with a Stanley blade either. A good coat of the Nitromors and it comes off easily. Obviously make sure you cover everything in the vicinity before you start to avoid any collateral damage!

It's a fair weather second car so I've never used the rear demister! I would expect them survive to as it came off much easier than having to scrape with a blade that I suspect would do more damage to bars.

Just to update this thread, I've spent a couple of hours this afternoon removing the tint from my rear screen.

I used a hair dryer on full heat, used my fingers to peel a corner then heated the tint as I pulled the film off very slowly. It came off in a couple of large pieces instead of lots of bits, but left a gluey residue all over the glass.

To remove the residue, I used about 5 new pan scrubbers and lots of petrol, then glass cleaner & soft cloth to finish off.

The pan scrubbers gum up with the residue and quickly lose their effectiveness hence using a few to keep the job fairly easy. The heater bars are completely fine after this procedure and the glass looks like new!:)

This job is still a PITA though.
