Morning all,

My long suffering zed has been sat for 5 years after it overheated and cooked a head,

in that time I had stripped down the existing engine to locate problem, once I realised how bad it was I

sourced a 2nd hand engine off the forum, that's now in and hopefully ready to go.

But it wont even turn over,

Its got a decent battery on it,

I've checked all the fuses,

I can hear the fuel pump priming itself ,

It just wont turn over,

The engine is free and rotates ok,

The only issue I can think of would be the fact the clocks, dash etc are out of it because the matrix

has been changed, would this cause an issue with wiring etc?????

thinking of trying a live to starter is this wise?

Help and advice please

Thanks

Rich

do you hear the starter solenoid clicking ?

i would start with the starter motor if you have a decent batt

Hi just wondered is this manual or auto and if manual has it been converted from an auto??

Seen this on a conversion where the wiring loom had been pinched putting in new engine.....

Theres a connector for the starter motor behind the drivers headlight.... If not connected it won't send trigger to starter....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

hi mate its a genuine uk tt manual from 1990

its a toad cat 1 but that's functioning ok and turning off with the fob

As above, check the earth strap, also, clean up the battery terminals both on the battery and the harness. The harness terminals can corrode leaving chalky deposits. If you're not getting the correct current draw through them, it'll only be enough to activate the relays (which is what you're getting). Make sure the battery has good charge too, you say it's a 'good' one, but double check.

You will have left off or undone an earth or connection. You've defiantly got charge? As the that's exactly what happens when the battery has insufficient charge it just goes click. If you keep trying eventually it won't even do that and the dash lights will disco.

thanks all

I went back through it cleaned everything up and happy days it fired up.

But its not running on all pots, the rad leaks like a sieve, and there must be a huge leak on a vac pipe somewhere

cos its sucking air in somewhere like a turbo would and no boost as yet.

The engine I bought has pipes blanked off here and there , guessing its aiv deletes etc but need to work out

what on the car side I need to blank off / remove or worst case re attach???
