I'm after buying a non turbo short wheel base but apparently these are only in Jap spec so the insurance would be more than if it were UK spec, but surely it wouldn't be more than a UK spec TT? Easy on me guys , I'm new here & even more vulnerable being an SX man, but it's only a mater of time. Would much appreciate any advice. Cheers lads.:)

AON were good for quotes for me when i had my imported GT4 and were good when i changed over to the UK TT i have now but i was a trumpet and told them about the SP30 i got last christmas and it jumped 90 quid to 510 quid...and the wife opened my schedule and seen how much i pay ...........300 gettin sold...not a chance hehe the mrs goes first:D but AON have a special deal for imports. The phone number for them is 01384 552 670 , i think they are online too but i like to phone to make sure all thedetails are ok.

i had several kittens trying to get my z insured but footman james came up trumps, 488 quid fully comp on j spec tt, 6 years ncb and 28 not bad at all being as my last co wanted 448 tpft on me mk3 supra non turbo, btw this is for a 3000 miles per year policy.

Yes, Jap-spec Zeds are generally more expensive to insure than UK TT Zeds....Bizarre, but true.

If your car is 10 years old, you can get it insured under a Classic Car Policy, which brings the price down slightly, depending on how many miles you're thinking of covering in the Zed.

Congratulations on the purchase of arguably one of the best cars on the road! ;) (Spoken from the heart of another Zed-lover - all other cars are naff! ;) ;) There, that should globally annoy everyone....not discriminatory, me. ;))

Personally, I'm insured with Adrian Flux, as they were the cheapest this year. Next year, when my Zed is then 10 years old, I'll probably go with Firebond. :)

Anita.

im sure the guys at the insurance factory said they dont care if its uk or import - all the same rate.

I'm insured with DirectLine at mo, but recently found out from Lifesure.co.uk that a quote from them is about £500 cheaper. I know who i'll be with next year! Didn't do imports when i took policy out.

Look at TSB. I did an online quote and they said £450. But the system crashes every time I go to do a full quote. I emailed them and they say that a quick quote is always within 10% of the final quote.

Stuart

one thing insurance companies have been telling me is that they won't insure your car with classic insurance if they have any mods. Just something to remember...............

Vijay

...the Co-op turned out to be the cheapest - also Jap na. Fully comp, business use, me and the wife, 60% ncd and unlimited miles (I do about 15k per year in the car) - £420ish. Ipswich.

good luck

Just did a quick quote with TSB and it came out at £1137 fully comp and I'm 10 years older than you! However, if I say that I have a UK spec 300ZX rather than a J spec one, the quote reduces to £235!!

I just don't understand car insurance sometimes.

Can't get insured as a classic if its an import I just found out from Osbornes. Has any one got a jap import and have it insured on a classic policy, obviously with it declared as an import.

Just shows what a rip off insurance is!

I tried Adrian Flux, and Tesco's and most of the others mentioned above and got told they don't insure imports!???!!! I suppose it depends on what badly trained scrotum you get through to at the time!

The best advice I can give is to buy a copy of some rag like Fast Car or Max Power and call ALL the adverts in the back (best if you're on the company phone:D )

p.s......what is it about insurance companies and Jap imports? Do they think the Japanese coat their cars with a couple of layers of Kamikazi paint?

It is not the car that is covered in Kamikazi paint, it is the blood that runs throught the bodies of 300zx drivers.

Another good place to try is in the back of Auto Trader, there are loads of companies in there. It did not take me long to find a decent quote for Rob from in here.

Good luck

Hugs and kisses

Adrian Flux certainly do insure imports! https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/imports/frameset.htm

And Tesco's certainly do imports as well - they were the second best quote for my NA SWB :) Maybe it does just depend on the person you talk to :/ Hmmmm, actually, the Toyota Sera club are always recommending Tesco's, so they *must* do imports.

For the topic starter, I can confirm that an import NA *does* cost a little more (at least) to insure than a UK TT, however stupid it seems. And personally, my best quote was from Hyperformance.

I'm a little bummed out that you can't insure imports on a classic policy, since that's what I was thinking about doing next year - is that true? :/

Oh, and Jack - got any contact details/website for this Co-op place? I found one (CIS) through Yahoo, but their damned online quote thingy keeps screwing up on me :(

These insurers or brokers definately do imports as people on here have taken policies with each of them in the past year. However some of them are particular about what risk they take on (eg certain post codes don't help), some specify that you have to have a Tracker or a CAT1 alarm or absolutely no modifications at all or must be garaged at night or any combination of these.

I have to say I tried phoning the ones in the back of Max Power and it proved a total waste of time last year as most just said sorry we don't cover imports or not a 300zxTT but a Scooby or EVO is ok.

...I'll dig out my insurance stuff from home and give you the details tomorrow morning when I'm back at work. It is CIS - Co-operative Insurance Society - and I get a discount cos my wife insures through them also. AND, last year it was about £345... I insured through Tesco before that and on renewal they decided that my jap import was a JAP IMPORT and wanted £200 extra - that's when I shopped around - got loads of silly answers, then contacted the co-op and bit their arm off...

How do u guys get good quotes from Direct Line and the likes of Tesco's. They gave me silly quotes of nearly a grand for my 300.

I am 35 yrs old, full NCB protected for maybee 8 years I think, my car is in a locked garage overnight with a CAT 1, 6000 miles a year and I have declared 3 points on an SP30. My wife is on the policy too but she never drives it, as I say the best for me is just over 500 quid this year, the closest for me was Bell Direct at 580 i think. Oops the car is standard too.

...I got all sorts of sharp intakes of breath, then a good price from the Co-op. I didn't believe them so I went down to their office, went through the process again as a total stranger and got the same reply. So I wrote out a cheque there and then, and a year later, the premium went up (about £64) in line with etc etc. I phoned them to check if it was anything to do with JAP IMPORT, but no, they were ok, just in keeping with national rises etc etc.

Thing is, I've had similar circumstances when I bought a Fiat - and I cant spell this - cincequento - for my wife so that my daughter could learn to drive. Swinton wanted £1200 (group 1) and we went with the Co-op for about £265 fully comp. Why the difference? I asked Swinton and they said that they were not good at insuring learner drivers. Really, they didn't want the business. And I think this is the central crux. Find a company that does want the business and you'll get a good price...

good luck

I've just tried a quick quote with LloydsTSB too ... it also came out with a ridiculously low quote of around 250-ish quid.

Too good to be true, I reckon. I shall ring them tomorrow to find out. If it's true that their only ever 10% out, I'll be fecking amazed ... not to mention ecstatic!!:D :D

Renewal's due soon - this would be bargain of the decade.

Fingers-crossed - but optimism level is low!

CheerZ,

John.

Doh!

Forgot to mention - that was the quick quote.

The full quote failed about 10 times, then gave me a referral. Just called them and they said they can't quote me yet since my renewal's not due 'til January ... very helpful chappy, though, offered to call back in December.

As I said, fingers crossed!!!

CheerZ,

John.

I paid well over £900 last year with the Insurance Factory (1991 J spec stage 3).

I got a quote from Lifesure earlier today that seemed too good to be true at "only" £620.

Then I got home tonight and my renewal notice had come through from the Insurance Factory at £502! :)

I'm not sure my insurance has ever reduced before and certainly not by that much! :D

Thanks alot lads. That was one productive post indeed. That's settled it, I'm having one. It's gonna be A while yet but finding out that I can insure one for the same as my very slightly modded 200 has made it deffo. Can't wait. Fancied the na 'cause I thought there's less to go wrong, I don't fancy replacing them turbos but you never know. Cheers.

Well I think its a rip-off some of the quotes that ya get for insurance but there are good quotes out there but maybee with out some of the benefits like courtesy cars etc. I just look for the cheapest quote but I think to be honest the only way to find out if your insurance company is any good is to actually make a claim and see how they handle it.

To be honest though no wonder the premiums are going through the roof with the usual when u take a car to a bodyshop, are u paying or are the insurance paying, two different quotes.

I declared my points to the insurance company as I know for a fact they will try to get out of settling a claim if they find u have undeclared points on yer licence....Sods law I think....they have u by the short and curlies either way.

Cheers John Crisp

...as promised yesterday. Jap import 300zx NA, unlimited mileage, business use, £50 excess, fully comp, 70% NCD protected, dob 21.1.51(old git), driver and wife - annual premium £431.43 from Co-operative Insurance Society. Great isn't it, there's no tel number on the documentation other than my local (Ipswich) agent. You'll have to check your local Yellow Pages for a tel number. Previous year the premium was £365.54, but there was discount as I was a new customer, and my wife and son were already insured through the Co-op.

good luck

Jack
