A couple of weeks ago, I took the Z down to Glastonbury to see my parents. As I was driving down Glastonbury High Street, a woman stepped out between 2 parked cars just as I drove past her. There was an almighty bang, I didn't even have time to brake. Well I pulled over and a nice family had gone to her aid. She was sat on the floor with a badly bruised leg, but was ok. The lady was Spanish and had looked the wrong way, saw that it was clear and just stepped right into the road at the wrong time!

We spent some time making sure she was ok and she apologised for it and took full responsibility, she was quite a sweet lady and we made sure she could walk around and didn't have shock. No real damage to the Z other than plastic lines/marks up the side of the car which polished out.

Shook me up a bit though!

However upon driving back to Portishead though, noticed that my mirror was vibrating. Managed to take it off yesterday as I am doing other things to the car to discover that the impact had broken the cast aluminium mount inside the mirror where the motor sits on.

Not really the right section, but whilst we're talking about it, does anyone have a spare passenger mirror chassis? I really don't care for the state of the mirror, just the chassis.

I am glad that the women is ok. And whats more i am glad to see your car is ok apart from the mirror. However the fact that you drove past her, then how the hell did you hit her? I know my grammer is bad, but that statment does not make sense. Please change your statement. many thanks. Love you.

It makes perfect sense. As I drove by her, I hit her, ie, she walked out. I still drove past her! I didn't stop and then hit her! :rofl:

Wierd thing is that when i started reading the first post my initial reaction was "hope the Zeds ok?"

How bad is that :(

Thing is Peter - unless the incident was undoubtedly my (or in this case, Si's) fault - then I also hate to say, I'd have thought the same thing too:oops:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

now you changed what you said. weres the past gone. just admit it. its only a little bit of fun. come on si . As i drove past somone or somthing, is different from driving by somone or somthing. And yes once you had drove by someone, you will have drove past someone. you get me.

You're making about as much sense as a politician. I haven't changed a single thing! I hit her as I drove past her (driving by her - SAME connotation). Now if you actually had a credible argument, I might find it a bit of fun, but as it is, you're like a fart in a cathedral! :rofl:

How else would you have worded it? Would you have stopped and hit her? She stepped out at the point that I drove past her, not before; she walked into the side of my car. So part of the car was past her and it happened as I was driving past her, so the sentence works and is correct.

Coming from the most incomprehensible person on the forum, you are a nincompoop! :lol: ;)

As i was passing, may-be . not as, i passed. I new you could not let this pass. thats why with my crap spelling and english grammer i had to point it out. and being a great person like yourself, also new you would not take affence, like i dont to your comments and replys. thanks thou

'As I was passing' and 'as I passed her' can have the same connotation. The 'act' is still the same.

  • Author

....I tell you what, I did make a grammatical error, but not one that you spotted. I should have used 'passed' instead of 'past'. 'As I passed her'. So you almost had a point. But my phrase 'just as I drove past her' means that I hit her at the very point in which I drove past her'.

Sorry Si, im watching this thread whilst you change it .at least four times in as many seconds. but the fact remains. you could have not hit anyone as you drove past that somone or object. where as, you could have hit somone as you passed by, or was passing by, not past something or somone. Nor just as I drove past her.,

you still not giving up are you. never mind. only playing, and going to bed now. my other half will not admit when she is wrong either. night night.

'As I drove passed her', it's a perfectly acceptable phrase and the usage IS correct. Things can be written in a number of says. Your argument is both valid and invalid.

What's hilarious is if you open the thread and join at the end all you have is this;

Which reads as if zed-racer is some kind of sadist! Haha

We have also learnt that;

veilside is apparently from Texas, and grew up on a whale farm by the looks of it.

Simon can run an old lady over after he has "past" "passed" or which witch is what...

Spin doctor, well he is wondering if the woman had a mango in her pocket because that would mean simon left it out.

(I jest with you all of corse)

Glad the cars alright, I had this happen to me in Bristol but I managed to swerve and brake avoiding her, girl on her phone tripped off the curb. Not fun.

I reversed over someone in my green Honda Prelude a few years back. He came accross the pedestrian crosssing on his bike outside my house and then straight onto the road as i was reversing off my drive. He was totally in my blind spot and there was a massive thud as i hit him. How could he not see me!! I'd just spent a week making a spoiler for the car out of wood and fiberglass and just had it painted and fitted the day before so it was a custom one off. He smashed the edges of the spoiler off the car. As i looked back, seen his mangled bike under my wheels and then seen him clutching his leg, i looked at the car.......gasped........picked the guy up............ then smacked him down again :angry: !

When i was 19 i had a Nissan Sunny ZX and i hit a lad, again in my street, who ran out of a garden gate at some speed and in front of my car. He went up over the bonnet and landed behind me and there was blood pouring out of his head. I thought i'd done some real damage (no damage to the car thankfully). Luckily he was ok but i later found out that the little Chav had been breaking into someones shed which is why he ran out onto the road as he was being chased. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Terry, if you still have your mirror, that would be great. As generous as Ted was and I thank him, the one he sent me was from a UK spec - I need a JDM one with the electro-fold mech.

Im really sure I do have one...

Yes please Terry! Don't care on the state of the mirror, ie whether it's scratched up or has broken glass, it's just the internal chassis that I need with the motor on it. :)
