I've gotta play devils advocate here and say, technically it was the fact that he was driving too fast to make it round the corner. Ie too too fast for the road condition, the bend in this case. He could quite legitimately have been under a national speed limit restriction, not every corner in section of road will be suitable for doing 60 round.

I understand there must be a posted limit and I certainly obey them when it plain silly not too, it's dropped to 30 through a village for a reason. However this preoccupation with "speeding" as a fatal crime that will cause you to inevitably have an accident because your going faster than the posted limit is not misleading it's short sighted. Just as gun don't kill people, people do, speeding doesn't kill being a dick does. This current mindset is why people think it's acceptable to do 40 past a school yet completely ludicrous to do 100 on an open empty dual carriageway.

How come the teachers were saved?, Union rules in broadcasting I bet!

Watched excepting a near miss and fly over by the car, but this was a bit jaw dropping!, the problem is the add is probably created by some tree hugging left winger who believes that losing control at speed (any speed) on a right hand bend allows the car to crash through a flint wall and do a Bond like dozen rolls before finding a soft landing!!

It's over the top fiction designed to go out when all the low life that do drive like this on a regular basis are getting topped up at the local hostelry and then playing with their mates until it goes pear shaped for someone.

If this add is about the appalling loss of 28 children due to road accidents, then ask the question, is this due to little Jonny and Ginny running into the road between parked cars (school runs with mums parked over the no parking areas) or because a school bus is involved in a collision involving speed on the drivers part!, point is there are many causes of death at speed, slow and fast! because speed is not is relative and so are the circumstances that cause accidents.

That said, any help or message that makes anyone thing twice has to be welcomed, even absurd far fetched ones like this!

yes its a harsh but there is to kinds of fast driver the guy in the vid in a every day car speeding to say get home or was late. and there there is people like me and many one here who like driving fast in fast cars the first guy I don't know what to do about the 2nd kind like me and other who like driving fast should have places to go do it and before you all say track days there often miles away and cost way to money .we need like place like old run ways or just like off the road places you can go for like a hour or 2 and do some burn out and some some 0 to 60s to get it out your system after all the world of modded fast cars in the uk it pretty big track days in the real world are like once a year if ye lucky and many will never go atall but I would be happy to go come were local for a blast and you pay a few pound just to cover costs . I know there is more to it than that but would be a great idea

According to the ni office all these adds are based on events that have actually happened in the province and use axa and psni to help make the advert. They are amended for impact viewing and if they save one life then it's worth it. Another add that runs here was a true story again adapted for the ads but a colleague who was a former psni accident investigator attended that one and said they has it very well done and wasn't too far away from the real event.

Its the latest hard hitting ad on UTV and it gets you thinking.

The D.O.E in Northern ireland do good adverts for all drivers over speed kills. As gary and the rest of the NI lads will tell you that they get the point across but unfortunately alot of the young drivers still dont take heed. I spent many years across the water and the adverts are on frequently.

... Aaaand breathe!

:tongue_smilie:

Hard hitting and, despite my tendency to agree with what Steve said, it's probably necessary to remind folks of the consequences of driving too fast for the prevailing conditions.

It does make me seethe when I hear that the government (whichever one might be in power) wants to punish motorway speeders harder and with bigger fines; but seriously, in clear, dry, quiet conditions, why is it dangerous to drive at 100 on a motorway? Forget the fact that it is illegal - I asked why is it dangerous (it is, after all, legal on some German autobahns!)...

....But drive at more than 20 - 30mph past a school on a wet Monday morning in winter and you deserve to have your licence shoved sideways up your arse; and that's just for starters!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Exactly that Richard. What causes accidents is piss poor observation and piss poor road sense. Here's some facts in my opinion.

1.If you cross the road without looking properly you will get run over, trust me I've tried it and learnt that lesson.

2.If you try and throw your corsa round a tight bend you've never even seen before let alone know, your likely to end up climbing a tree or on your roof.

3.If you drive past a school, children WILL walk out between cars WITHOUT looking(see point one) your less likely to kill the little oiks if your not speeding.

4.You will not instantly burst into flames and kill 10 pandas because your doing 150mph.

5.When you get caught speeding, you were braking a law and you likely knew it. If you failed to spot the bright yellow box eight foot in the air what else have you missed?

6.Confidence doesn't make you invincible, even professionals get it wrong and average joe is pretty crap at this driving buisness no matter how much the audi cost them.

7.Hogging the outside or middle lane is one of the worst offences around, it sets about a chain of events. When impatient and ignorant meet things go wrong.

8.Its your responsibility to check your mirrors before changing lane, in or out.

9.Failing to go with traffic, ie those people that do 40 EVERYWHERE! Wether it's a 30 or 60 posted limit, are utterly ignorant.

10.You are not as good a driver as you think you are and even if you were the crest of then are thick enough to cock it for you both.

*******s.

this I agree 7.Hogging the outside or middle lane is one of the worst offences around when that happpeds I often just under take and then they look at you like a piece of crap if to say you should stay behind them till they decide if you are good nuff to pass

Amen brother....

well I didn't no that that's for sure

Yeah 268 here though,

https://www.gov.uk/motorways-253-to-273/overtaking-267-to-269

Technically there's no undertaking offence but you shouldn't over take on the left, it's poorly worded. Essentially I interpret it as you shouldn't zip down the inside of someone, however if they are congestion you may pass on the inside. I think it's a grey area, they will book you for undue care etc.

so the chances of getting booked are still high

I think that would depend on your conduct and the proper application of law by Johnny cop. There's a chance but you won't technically be done for undertaking itself, more for a dangerous manoeuvre if applicable.

It should be the middle lane tosser that should get done as that IS an offence and being a loory driver myself the number of cars I have to pass on the left as they are only doing 48 mph on a clear motorway it's the only way passed them for me as I can't use lane 3.

Middle lane hoggers are probably my biggest bugbear. I can't physically sit in the middle lane unless I am overtaking something. My instinct is ALWAYS to come back to the inside lane at every opportunity, purely because it's the closest lane to get the hell of off if you have a mechanical failure of sorts! I'd rather have a blow out in lane 1 than lane 3. Plus there are all the other reasons why in terms of traffic volumes and queues etc.
