Hi guys,

Anyone that's heading up north for this and wants to convoy together I think Chievley Services where the A34 meets the M4 would be a good place to meet it allows those from the south east and south west to catch up with us as well albeit with a slight detour. Obviously this would be early doors. Any comments or suggestions encouraged.

LOL - it's a very big detour for anyone from the South East Steve!! South Central maybe; but anyone in the SE or Thames Valley would just head north from the off...... Might I suggest a two-stage convoy - how about you SW/SC guys meet at Chievley and then you meet the SE guys at either Oxford or Warwick services a bit later:thumbup:

I would otherwise have been up for this; however I have agreed to pick up a certain committee chum from that airport at Brum, so his arrival time dictates when I'll be heading up the M40:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yeah I see that Richard but I suppose it depends which part. If your well in the east you would pick up the M1 would you not? However if your more west the m4 can be picked up and it won't add too much time to the journey, esp at that sort of time.

I would be up for this mate, which route you taking?

Basically straight up the A34 heading north, to pick up the M40. So for me it would be m27,m3,a34 and m40 then some minor roads.

You would indeed mate.... but for someone like me in the west of the SE region (and bordering the SE/SC/TV regions), heading west to Chieveley services would add another 45-60 minutes to the journey. It's 45 miles or so in the wrong direction; particularly if one is already closer to the M25/M40! Coventry itself is little over an hour away from the bottom of the M40....

Hence my suggestion that anyone planning to use the M40 from the SE region would be better meeting you later on at Oxford:wink:

It's certainly a fair suggestion, equally for south west people using the m5 would negate the m4 I believe.

Good point mate......

Junction 11 on the M40 where the A34 joins? near Bicester

....And another...

I will also be doing M27, M3, A34 so depending on what ferry i get would be good to drive up with some other zeds:thumbup1:

I will have to work back the timings to plan the ferry, most likely a 5am, which gets me in to Portsmouth at 5:40am, should be enough time to get up to Coventry for 9:30am.

I will travel M25->M40, so somewhere along M40 say Esso Cherwell Valley Motorway Service Area at J10?

Im going from Reigate m25...m40 ..so im up for meeting somewhere

I'm coming from J6, so if you want to join up at say Cobham services before heading up M40 I would be happy to do so.

ok sounds like a plan..You from caterham then?

Right then, some details to finalise. we can amend these as we go.

We need to be on site by 10am at Coventry transport Museum(CV1 1JD) I expect earlier would be sensible so I will clarify with Lexx.

We can all meet at Cherwell Valley motor service station(OX27 7RD) I believe we can access this on the north bound side, leaving us about an hour outside the venue to catch up with those travelling from the south east and south west. So around 8.30 there would be wise allowing some stragglers and some margin at the other end.

So that leaves either Rownhams on the m27 this end or Chigwell to catch up with those travelling up from the SC area, whats the preference guys?

  • 2 weeks later...

Missed your reference to timings.

Ideally I don't want anyone arriving until 1000.

I only get access a little before then and need time to organise.

As there are no car washing facilities on site, get some clingfilm on your mirror covers and front end before you leave to stop those pesky gnats from making nasty messes!
