Morning

Got a nice crack in my front screen from a stone and I have an excess of £75 on the glass. My concern is that my premium might go up this year cos I've claimed a screen. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Cheers

Vijay

I'd have thought they wouldn't, but I also know what insurance companies can be like :(

Read your T&Cs. Failing that, give them a call and ask 'whether claiming on a windscreen will either affect your NCB or premium'.

I claimed a couple of years ago and just paid the excess, did not affect my NCD

Windscreen replacement normally doesnt affect your ncd. It can be taken into account at renewal time and might affect your premium.

I

Generally it doesn't affect your NCB. It could affect premiums but it would generally depend on a lot of other factors. So for example, if you are a clean risk and have one windscreen claim, chances are there'd be little or no difference because of the claim. If you had loads of points on your licence and 4 other claims then chances are the windscreen would be taken in to account more as you are more likely to make more claims and you're a higher risk etc.

From a more technical stance. Any claim could be taken in to account and it's completely up to your insurer whether they increase the price.

Cheers, that's what I'm worried about. I've never ever made a claim on my insurance - only when my car has been hit by a third party. No points.

My windscreen excess is £75 so I'll call round for the screen tomorrow and then decide.............................

Just about to do the same but holding off as getting a respray first.

Now a question i'm thinking of is can you claim if there is no MOT ?

Yes. mot is nothing to do with the windscreen policy.

Alan.........

For reference, cheapest is about £160 (fitted) through National Windscreens. Most expensive - Autoglass - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Autoglass repair, Autoglass rip off....

They all use the PilkingtonK branded glass, rather than the 'Nissan' branded glass that you'd get from the stealership. They're all made by the same factory.

From the horses mouth there.... Cheers Lee!

In my own experience, windscreen claims have had no effect on premiums over the years. Insurers have increased the excess from £25 to £75 (sometimes £100 and even £250 for company fleet policies) in order to reduce their losses - especially after windscreen chips etc became a potential MOT failure. Providing you have not made loads of window claims in the year, you should be OK!

Hey, I'm much more of an albatross than a big donkey lol.

Yeah, we use to have a £0 excess for chips and scratches on a windscreen and £50 for a replacement. Now its £75 for replacement and £10 for a chip/scratch. The main problem for insurers were companies that sit in car parks etc telling everyone to come and get their windows fixed and telling them its free if you have comp cover and all that. Although it cost the customer nothing, it would be billing to the insurer for every little thing. This in turn puts premiums up in general as windscreen claims are taken in to companies loss ratios and things.

All a bit of a viscious circle really as the insurance is there to make money first and foremost otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

Dead right Lee - just like any other business! It's about time that the rest of the population bloody well got used to the fact that "businesses" are in business to make a profit; and not just to serve the public's own needs!! And that goes for insurance companies, banks, retailers et all..... More profits also = more taxation revenue for the Treasury; which in turn pays for the public services we all benefit from. Get used to it people; it's called capitalism. If you don't like it, move to a communist country and then see just how good you have it.....
