Sold my z on sunday and want a manual one. Put an offer on this and won it but after speaking to the guy, its been welded on the front floor pans around the jacking area, needs a wheel arch sorted (rust) and the l/h roof under the targa has rust. Then if you look close at the passenger side lower quarter near the door it seems to be a different colour. Am I being too fusy but living in N.Ireland, its not exactly on my door to go and look at it. All advice would be appreciated.. here is the link and the winning offer.

Not being fussy. For the price, you'd at least expect a car without rust. Walk away. You should be able to get a straight UK TT Manual for £5k. Strange that there are photos with and without the interior.....makes you wonder what the exterior ACTUALLY looks like CURRENTLY.

Also...it might be photo clarity...or lack of, but the offside suspension turret looks like it has a line of weld on it too. Nearside sill is notably darker hinting that it's had rot cut out and replaced.

Because there are still cars about that haven't had rot repair and are rot-free, then I would ALWAYS suggest steering clear of a car that's been welded. There are enough rust-free cars out there without having to look at rusty ones. Wheel arch repair is a different matter, but structural repair, I wouldn't unless it was done to a high standard.

Agree with all the above!, that sport of money or anywhere near it, you should be looking at a clean rust free model, there are and have been some good ones for sale on the forum recently and there is a very good stock clean dealer supplied one on eBay for £4k!

I should take a little time and look around more, start first with the cars for sale on here, as if nothing else you can for the most part check back on their history by searching posts.

Good luck and buy well.

Just to echo some of the above comments... Definately walk away, I'd expect that Z to be up for £3k max, and that's being nice

That rear quarter sill section does not look right at all to me, maybe the angle but I would steer clear myself.

Just notified him through ebay so now waiting for him to report me for non payment and here starts the fun. However the car doesn't match the description so worst way I get a strike for non payment. Check the resolution centre and it doesn't cover real estate or vehicles! Like that other one though

Think a phone call in the morning to see what this is hiding. Hopefully this one might be the one lol

Do you want TT or NA, the one in Wigan is NA. I could always go and have a look at the one in Wigan for you.

If he describes all the bad bits after the sale, you can just put it back through ebay as 'item not as described'....so yeah, as you've said, you'll be fine. That car's been there a while, I doubt you're the first person to do this!

Personally, I'd have a look at the 96 TT for sale on here. There's a few minor things needed doing to it, but other than that, it looks solid.

I have a 1991 TT that needs a diff for little money if interested, MOT'd until December, taxed until end of August.

no budget really set aside, just want a good one but like everyone I want to keep reasonable.

Thankfully no issues with cancelling offer. The guy just asked me to agree it was bought in error to save his paying fees to ebay and leave him it can be relisted. So that's put to bed.

I'll be going to have a look at the one in Wigan this afternoon for Derek, Jr. has no lessons in college so he can come with me and search all over it for you buddy. Will let you know as soon as we get back.

thanks, be interesting to hear what is like and if its as clean as Brian says. Will ring him later to advise you's are coming to look at it for me . thanks again

After hearing about that rust its got me worried and for that sort of money you should be able to get one in better condition Derek.
