I did a dyno day on Saturday, my first run was 30whp higher than the following two, which implies it's getting way too hot

Side mounts for definate, know a few who have gone from FMIC to SMIC because of restricted air flow, IMO why load the stuggling radiator/cooling system any more than nessessary.

My sentiments exactly. There's absolutely no need or reason to obscure the radiator when there are SMICS out there that are as efficient for no real extra cost. Less pipework, less blocking airflow.

I got the kit a few years ago and got around to fitting it last weekend :) I'm not running by all means but looks ok, I'm relocating the oil cooler and I have ditched the aircon rad and I am getting a bigger rad for cooling, quality wise seems ok and wasn't too bad to fit.

simple answer to intercooler options for the Z32:

If you think F&F films are real then get a front mount

If you live in the real world get SMIC's

:scooter:

if i was going to leave my aircon rad in then i wouldnt have considered putting in a fmic but i did get rid of that and upgraded the oil cooler to.and if your not looking to gain over the 500 bhp mark then dont bother unless you have a kit that needs somthing there, cas without it would look silly in my opion

That makes no sense.

What he said....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

yes it does to me. 1 if your not going for big big bhp numbers , ie over the 500 mk. then dont need. 2 if you have a standered front bumper then looks wise pointless because you woulnt get the cooling benifet of one stuck behind a standerd bumper ,whitch brings me onto unless u have a kit at the front with a large whole for the air to cool through it again pointless, and again why would you put a large fmic infront of theair con rad, so the cooling air has to go through the fm then the air con rad by witch time i should think theres no point trying to cool whats left to go threw the rad.if u get me.

Where's this 500bhp number come from then!?

A bigger intercooler is better for all concerned whether you're running over a certain HP or not. If you're going big numbers, SMICs are also the way to go. No huge bumpers and SMICs on SpecialityZs 8 second Z32 TT. Jaffa's 650hp track weapon or most of the other high HP Z32s you'll see around the world. The majority of the notable big hp Z32s across the globe will run SMICs - usually Ashspec Massivs or similar.

I do get what you're trying to put across, but neither are needed - having an FMIC is purely an 'appearance' thing. Mechanically, there's no advantage and IMO, why stick something in front of the rad.

There are some occasions where a front mount may be superior, more in terms of its location than it's abilities though. However if you were in the position to require this you would already know ;)

I did it because I fancied one lol. I am not chasing power and don't even drive hard for that matter, pulsars and imprezas have top mount intercoolers and when they fit front mount it doesn't make a difference (apparently).

That's because they have no space anywhere else. ;)

Having this one never caused any cooling issues and it,s made for a 300 so all the pipe work fitted perfect , i did use a front mount for a different reason but it never caused any issues !

My front bumper isn't standard and would provide more airflow to the FMIC than the side ones. What new IC kits would you guys recommend? Money is a factor.
