Hey,

Just before I dive in and part with the family savings on a 95 Fairlady (twin turbo) I thought it would be wise to seek some advice from you guy's...

The one I am looking at is in very good overall condition, long MOT etc but has no sound system and an after market exhaust. I will need to fit a stereo and would prefer to buy an original set of pipes. It's done 88000 mls but sounds pretty smooth. The fella wants £4 k , I am hoping to knock that down a tad, but what do you guy's think?

Are there any weak points on these I should look for? My comfort zone is motorbikes and I'm "fair" with a spanner but I fancy spending most of my time in it as opposed to under it...

Thanks in advance guy's n' gal's

Hi Al,

Welcome to the club.

Regarding exhausts, most Z32s come with aftermarket stainless systems. The OEM system is extremely expensive (some £800+ iirc) and made from mild steel. You can find them second hand, but they are very restrictive and have no real sporty note to them and look pretty weedy. I can empathise with your reasoning for wanting a stock system, I was the same when I bought my Z, but there are excellent systems out there that are smooth and drone-free but with a refined burble.

Audio can be fitted fairly inexpensively.

Depending on the condition, I'd say £4k is a fair price for a 95. If it's in excellent condition and a manual, then I'd say it's probably slightly under pricing - finding a nice one can be hard and IMO, a tidy one is very much worth it.

Weak points on a 95 generally won't be body, but check the arches, sills - also get underneath and check the floor pan for rot and the tinwork under the rear bumper. For mechanicals, check for smokey turbos or signs the rings might be worn, also look for leaks. They are generally prevalent from the back of the engine and often tend to be main seal, cam seals, PAS rack seals.

Interior condition - if it's not been retrimmed is generally a tell tale sign of how much it's been used. The bolsters are the first things to wear.

There are plenty of buying guide threads on here. Have a trawl through the search facility too - it's been YEARS since I bought my Z and have no real recent experience.

right, also a crucial point id hoe do you know its a 95???

the only real way to tell is by the Chassis number, this can be compared to a list available on the net that shoes the year of manufacture... Don't be caught out with an older car.

if you have trouble working it out just post the number on here and we'll sort it for you.

Also, if you plan on using this as a daily drive, just remember you are buying a (near) 20 year old car...

there are very few mechanics in the UK that are familial with these and Nissan aren't one of them..

Oh and this is always helpfully

I guess yours would be the 94 one.

I agree with the above, but I'll also state, there's absolutely nothing wrong with an older car. If in good condition, they're every bit as good, as generally, they come with a higher level of specification too.

Yeah, Si, agreed... but not all.. I thought mine was a 93 and it looked good... turned out to be a 91 and none of the information about it was true ... £6 down the loo, not to mention the other thousands I've spent on it..

so not saying it rubbish for sure just be careful.

e.g. rear ball joint replacement!!, turbo replacement, timing belt.. none cheap or easy.. :)

Oh and don't for one minute think that one of these is a sensible buy, these cars are for the enthusiast .. and will cost you money.

I love mine and always will. :) best of luck..

She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.

Oooh wow. Wonder if a club member has bought it? SPEAK NOW or forever be silent! I hope it continues to stay in this unmolested state. It would be so utterly tragic if it were ruined by some great big ugly bodykit and/or gawky bumper.

They said the same about Allegro - and they were right. Odd isn't it. :)

side skirts, rear bumper and boot spoilers are C1 veilside were imported from veilside and cost a small fortune.... these....

The front bumper was an original C1 but was replaced by my old insurance company twice after someone reversed up my driveway to turn round and smashed it to pieces..... twice!!!!

I was told they had got the repairer to order one from veilside...... turned out they got a copy and then refused to order a genuine one as they had put the car back to how it looked prior to the accident....

Ombudsman agreed that the insurance company had fulfilled their obligation and I had no case to force them to use veilside when a copy/pat. part was available at a cheaper price.....

I was not happy...... but had no choice.......

Bloody insurance company screwed me.....

Easy spot is the indicators on copy and original they are not there......
