Yeah especially those with PL, BG, RO, SK, LT, LV etc number plates!!

Tax is an inevitability of life.

Apologies if this offends, but if you don't like paying the tax, then why did you buy a Q7?

I don't really get the rants about it to be honest. We've been getting screwed out of money by the government 101 different ways, and it's never gonna change.

Pay your tax, enjoy your car, or get a bus/taxi/train.......which are way more expensive than just paying the tax in the first place.

If it were a fairer system, then maybe there wouldn't have to be any rants.

Ah yes, because in this fairytale world we live in everything is fair and everything works as it should....

If you don't want to pay car tax, don't own a car (or buy one with low emissions).

It would be much fairer if they added road tax to petrol. We pay so much tax on it already it wouldn't make much difference. Then if you did fewer miles or drove a poxy little car you pay less. Everybody would pay something and you couldn't dodge it. ( unless you drove off from the petrol station without paying!)

I thought they already added it on to petrol and just forgot to cancel the tax disc!!

but what iff we the normal hard working tax paying law abiding joe public want to own a nice big car as a reward for our hard graft...that road tax figure for this 1 car is legalised theft and just another way of propping up the govements failings in spending money stupidly. This argument of "iff you dont like it buy a small car" smells of a person who has,nt got a Q7:tongue:

What I take umberage to is the fact my girlfriend for example can pay her £30 a year road tax and do 100,000 miles or whatever in theory, and still only pay £30. The zed does say 3-4k miles a year but costs another £200 a year more to tax...:s I'm gonna do less polluting in 3k than she does in a year, it's apparently about pollution so...

However it isn't is it, it's a money making riff off scheme.

I don't pay road tax, but I would be more than willing for the price of the tax to go on petrol because it is a much fairer system.

A pay as you go scheme would be good. I used to pay £240 for my astra & do less than 2,000 miles a year.

Exactly, with the price of tax on petrol those that drive more pay more and vis versa.

Your road tax is nothing to do with them number plates. There are more gb number plates in Lithuania then lt plates in gb :)

I have to say, I agree with the OP on this one.....

Each and every vehicle using the road should pay a single rate of road tax like in the olden days - or the whole RFL scheme should be axed and we all only pay tax on fuel as we drive. The daft idea introduced by that one-eyed lunatic who once governed us, whereby road tax is based on emissions is just barmy. A Prius has just the same impact on the road and subsequent congestion as a Q7; assuming they are both driven the same mileage, so why target the Q7? Exactly, a tax on wealth... Sorry Mr Brown, but taxing wealth is supposed to be the preserve of income tax; hence why it is so named:nono:

And as cars get older, they get cheaper to buy; so the above daft idea then serves to penalise the less well off when they eventually purchase a second hand bigger car for peanuts.

Whilst the original idea was Brown's fault, the present government has not seen fit to re-address the issue; since it too was originally hoodwinked by the "green lobby" in attempt to remain in touch with their green credentials. Thing is, there is only so much green nonsense the public will take - when it really starts to hammer each and every one of us in our pockets (whether that be with road tax, petrol tax or even our gas/electric bills), then the public [hopefully] will see sense and cast their vote accordingly.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I pay that much my x5 its a joke

I pay that much my x5 its a joke

Exactly - and despite my comments above about a "tax on wealth" regarding expensive cars; the likes of Audi/BMW/Mercedes have spent £££s on R&D to reduce the quoted emissions of their bigger cars in order to keep taxes down....

....For example I pay £280 to tax my SLK (a 2009 "350" model with 308bhp); yet the latest version - which costs circa £45k new - can be taxed for about £160 a year. Simply because MB has fettled with the engine to produce much lower emissions yet still have it produce 306bhp!! Now that's what I call progress!!

What a perfect way of forming a collection of words in which every single word is complete common sence and forms a true picture of the insanity of this stupid taxing system...have some rep Richard:wink:

I think it would be fair if a foreign car enters the uk, they buy a road tax for the duration of their visit. Same way as when I drive through Slovenia, Switzerland etc, I purchase a vignette.

Edited by meht

there is actually no such thing as road tax.

Road tax was abolished YEARS ago, roads are paid for with all the normal tax funds ;)

Your road fund license is just another way to get money out of us by hoodwinking the common man

I agree its a fooking rip off though.
