Just this weekend i meet Simon GT from cheshire, nice to meet you chap, He was down Norwich doing stuff. i bought a electric fan of him, cheers bud, the fan i bought was the electric fan that sits there infront of the aircon rad, so assuming it blows air and not pulls air was thinking of wiring this up to a switch on its own and also straping it to the cars rad. one to save me buying a maga expensive electric fan that dosnt do the job. dont want to get rid of the fiscous fan, just nice to have the option should i need it if bombing around in our summer months/ sorry days.

question one if im extreamly careful i should be able to mount this onto the cars rad with some rubber pads and skinny bolts,,

question two the plug has three pins in it does this mean its a two speed fan or is one speed. oh and yes i have tacken the aircon all out. im now onedering when that plug comes live.

Those things weight a ton, probably pull your rad apart if you attached it through the fins.

I wouldn't use that in place of the standard viscous fan. It's quite a lot less powerful than the standard fan. Surface area + speed.

im also doing this buddy, as i am making some 'not standard' modifications to my engine area ;) so with the viscous fan ill be using this as an auxiliary on a switch + relay.

As for the 3 wires i think the TT has dual speed and the n/a has single speed. both driven from relays from the ECCS so the service manual says...

If you guys are not removing your viscous fans and have this already in situ, where are you planning on putting this 'third fan'!?

That fan wired in has standard is used by the car has an emergency fan.

Wired in standard to come in if the car gets a bit hot, I have no aircon rad but still have the fan in its original place.

where it sits already :sailor: be only used as an aid when standing or emergency as terry said. but its not a third, mine came with it removed, and i bet a few plums remove it with removing their aircon.

Right like i said i do not want to get rid of viscous fan.

secondly if i mount it were it was origanly sits infront of the aircon rad then surley it will sit 6 inches away from the rad, if my memorys right. if not and it sits right in front of the rad thats were it will go back. as for wiring dont want it as an emergency fan , i would want to turn it on as soon as i see the temp gadge go up if needed. ie sitting in heavy traffic in the summer months and if playing and driving fast, on a track of course. more of peace of mind knowing you can turn it on at your own leasure.

just any ideas for wiring it in without spoiling the dash dont like switches everywere

65mm bloody hell man, how do you know that did u go and measure it,? Thanks thats not far away atall, i could use someform of hardy foam stuff to bridge that gap, or use an inch thick pieace of polistine and once in a circle coat it in fiberglass resign.then paint black.easy.wont look out of place and light and strong.any thoughts on how to wire it up?

do you still have AC? sounds like you haven't. If that's the case don't bother refitting it...

Why? It still protects the engine overheating even with the AC off. It came on several times when we were in +30C

stop start traffic (with no AC working).

With no load from AC, and no additional cooler in the way then it 'shouldn't' be needed if the viscous is still locking up correctly. Depends on the OP's preference and intended use

I'm with Jaffa, the airflow improvement is massive over having the dirty partially blocked 20+ year old ac rad in the way. My aux fan no longer comes on as my ac is fully deleted, it used to come on at idle etc. or that may be to do with my manual conversion, idle switch non operational possibly. Never figured out if it's actually working.

Mine never kicks in, but its there incase viscous needs help and I like it there has a warning, stock gauge will read half way when this kicks in but its very close to overheating if its constantly kicking in then u know something may be wrong.

I had a slight water leak once and it was saying it was not overheating on the gauge sitting at half way,but the fan kicked in while it was on idle, fixed slight leak and its never kicked in since, the leak must of stopped the water getting up to pressure and circulating.

Well then if thats the case i wont need to wire up a seperate switch then, ill just plug it in, if i have no aircon because iv removed it and left the wiring along then surley if its the case when you power up the aircone at idle then the power should go on and run my fan ,after all im not going to be using it in the winter months am i so if and when in a hotter climate 20 plus flick my aircone switch then my fan should come on, when in traffic idle. Na ill just wire it up and find a swtich to use like the rear wiper switch. cas ive deleated that but left the wriring there. cool. get it COOL never mind

The aux fan will kick in whether or not you have an AC system fitted at 105C. The ECU controls its operation under those conditions.

See my FSM post above for the complete picture of the low and high fan speed conditions.

It should work when the ac is on and at idle though.

With the aircon on it should, but in normal conditions it shouldn't kick in at idle.

it should be kicking in emergency if things are really getting hot.

car shouldn't be getting that hot 105degrees

Unless in really hot weather, or something wrong.

even when its really hot in summer mine don't kick in,

A while back I had a dodgy viscous and you couldn't touch the plenum after a good drive it was so hot under the bonnet I got another viscous and now the plenum is cool to touch even after a long drive.

So even things like a slightly worn viscous could have it kicking in.

ok read the link to how it operates but if i plug it in were it should go then it works when the cars running to hot. i want it to work when its getting hotter but not near boiling point. i want it when i play hard if you like and when in heavy traffic in the summer as a caution

it should be kicking in emergency if things are really getting hot.

It was hot weather! The constant stop, rev the engine, move a bit (few yards) and stop again got the thing going. I still have the AC

rad in place, so that might have contributed. The cooling system, VC etc is all working fine, it was just a *very" hot day. The other bonus

(if you can call it that) is that you can hear and feel when the aux fan is on.

Has you say on a really hot day, but generally mine never kicks in unless there's something wrong,

Im not lucky enough to take mine abroad either would love to drive my zed to spain or france would be a perfect car for it..in the front lol..

about 10 years ago I had a prelude vtec me and I drove it to denia near benidorm I drove it in 1 go only stopping for a couple of coffee food breaks would brilliant,

Me and my brother went in the car my misses and brothers misses and my daughter who was 6 months flew..

the prelude I thought was gonna be hell was so comfortable and done it effortlessly,

Been a couple of times with parents in a space cruiser and a merc a class, both of them hurt sitting down etc but the prelude seats were hard and standard bucket type seats but were great.

the front zed seats are really comfortable bet there great...
