Hello all.

Having recently acquired my zed and with plans to start preparing it for drifting I would like to get it checked over and serviced by someone that knows the cars.

Can anyone suggest a good garage that I could take it to that has a bit of experience with them and can give it a good going over for me?

I don't mind a bit of a drive to the right place.

PowerZed in Bristol. Yet to have any bad feedback. I think we're in a good era for Z32 maintenance and builds now. 5 or 6 years ago, there were a few cowboys about. We're left with PowerZed and Zedworld who both have a wealth of experience.

Take it to Lee Dent in Shrewsbury, he's probably the closest to you aswel mate. He knows these cars inside out.

Is zed world Birmingham way? I think I have a one piece prop coming from there. I could combine that with a visit to my dads in Sutton Coldfield so may be easiest.

Agreed - otherwise Jimmer at Powerzed..... Although being in North Wales, I'd wager that Zedworld is closer.....:wink:

Agree with you Funky that your good friend Jimmer ( Powerzed) in Bristol is the man for park monkey no doubt, however Funky I do not agree we are in good era for z32 maintenance, and as you put it "cowboys" unfortunately does not really describe the problems that especially new owners can fall foul of.

 

There are many good general garages out there that will be up front with you and say no they do not have enough experience of Z32 and pass on the job but there is an equal amount that will give the impression they can and will often charge you more than established dedicated places and if there are any complications they often then cannot sort them out fully, most of all and like many similar marques the Z32 requires passion from both the owner and who works on it, the past 10+ years has seen many (lots) of these passionless outfits who are happy to take you money without displaying an ounce of dedication, only greed for either the money or notoriety, they come and they go but the wake of damage and upset they cause has been fundamental in the 300zx been less popular than the other similar cars, be careful and go with long established places ( jimmer) and talk to the owner about exactly what real time experience in length of time they have on the z32 and in particular other owners cars not just there own.

 

To park monkey, looking for advice on who to use your phrase someone with " a bit of experience " is too undefined, it could be taken you asking for one of the lesser establishments mentioned above, if you are good luck with that.........

I think what Simon was aiming at was particularly the specialist garages like yourself. Over the years, many have come and gone but yours and Jimmer's steady, solid reputation is providing a reliable platform for people that know the importance of seeing a specialist to utilise with confidence.

There will always be those that chose to take this sort of car to a 'generic' garage so those issues will remain, but for the moment at least, we have 2 proven traders that cover everything we need to ensure happy motoring and for that reason I tend to agree with Simon that 'for those that know' it's a good era.

An understatement Tom, Lee is definitely another contender in this area, ive watched him work and his expertise and passion for zeds is there for all to see. I am over the moon with the work he did for me so big shout out for him too.

Shrewsbury would probably be the closest option. About an hour and fifteen mins from me.

Not had much chance to drive it yet so haven't really had chance to find any of those niggley little issues, apart from a very rough idle, but it won't hurt to take it somewhere for a good service and find out what sort of condition it's in.

I've used Zedworld and Lee Dent. I would happily recommend them both.

Lee Dent has to be classed in with these "two specialist" Zed garages. I have seen and indeed have had work done by Lee (I have three Zed's with him now), and his knowledge and passion for our cars is second to none. As can be seen by other posters who have had work done by Lee and are very happy with his work and his knowledge. I would have no hesitation in both recommending and using Lee for working on any one of my cars.

whole heartedly agree with Jeff and Simon and others i was bitten badly by a so called zed specialist ..still have the scars to prove it

You'd be bonkers crazy not to use Lee if you only live in North Wales. I've been more than delighted with the work he's done on my Zeds :)
