1995 Silver Series IV Slicktop Version S - Taking To Another Level

Took many items off my engine and have sent them to a metal polisher just a few miles from me and below are the results of his and my work :cool3:.

This is my aftermarket radiator bracket, it was or is stainless steel but now highly polished. The SLICKTOP plate was made by TwinTurboRich and I've had this powder coated and bolts on with some stainless steel allen capped nuts and bolts.

This is my Tokyo Auto cooling panel, original these come in silver or blue from z32-zone in Japan, mine was silver and the polisher told me it was anodized but now polished up as you can see. The logo was originally silver and riveted on, I drilled these out and had it powder coated, again bolted on using the same attractive stainless bolts.

Then the usual polished up water pipes, these will be used with red silicone hoses and mikalor t-clamps

Finally for this post, had my Altia sills polished, this removed many many scratches incurred from over the years, now I have a mirror finish.

  • Although this 95 is incredibly clean and we want it to stay this way, Jim has been underneath it, scrubbing, cleaning because he bought a Rust Buster Epoxy Kit in Silver Aluminium which is not far off

  • More also on the digital AC in the days to come, I always had the manual pod on the 94 but with the white 95 providing the digital one I have migrated the full loom from that LWB into my 95 SWB, this

Personally I kinda think the rear might look better over two lines, less empty yellow space around the edge. Maybe I'm just used to mine though!

For those that need an update, my car will not be ready for me to go and rebuild on Friday, be after the weekend now.

When i was last with it i grabbed the piece under the steering wheel, now covered in of course the same as my door cards in charcoal alcantara .

And here is an underside pic for those thinking........yeah but what is it like underneath :).

My wheel center caps are now ready in a highly lacquered gunmetal finish ;).

I always new some had tape around on the inside, thought this was just extra so they didn't fall off.....turns out all they needed were some 'o' rings, ebay great for things like this, exact ones required bought and waiting .

An update to post 171 where the rear one line plate was a little small, here it is on the pic below but with a brand new 'bike style' rear plate with the font size pretty much the same as the front being 45mm wide with a height of 70mm, happy with that, options i guess .

Spent the afternoon putting things back at the sprayers request, he wants to go over it again with a fine cutting polish tomorrow now, i'll visit again on Thursday and this will definitely be me bringing it away.

Genuine 99's are back on along with the spoiler, all the reverse panel does these days is light up red - nothing else :cool3:.

The bumper is actually fitted but this is an earlier pic, gone back to the 89 spec headlight inserts with a simple white crisp halo

Awesome work Andy. Do you have any plans after or taking a break and admiring it?

I'm going to sell :whistling:.

It's looking amazing, yet another epic build hitting the streets soon. Great to see so many high end cars about.

Thanks Joel, i will have quite a bit of fine tuning to do once i get it back which will include the interior but yes in a few weeks all going well it should be nice.

I do want to get it set up at each corner, weighing it, etc, i did have no pre load at the l/h front as the coilover locking collar must of slipped down :confused1:.

Think it's time for an update, sadly my paint job is poor, i am saddened by it, i put a lot of effort in as it was i that stripped it, also involved a lot of travelling, there are runs, r/h door was re done and is therefore a shade darker, attention to detail/perfection was non existent, i could go on but we'll leave it there, i've made a big embarrassing mistake but the good news is i have a guy i've used many times coming round today and we'll take it from there - it'll be sorted.

A couple of pics which is just to show the cleaner look i am aiming for and to make me feel a little better.......got the genuine 99's in, swage line is painted on and the side markers are illuminated and they do flash when i indicate, that's a feature i have kept from before, 300ZX in the reverse panel lights up in red and is at a brightness between subtle and brake light.

The below pic was taken in quite bright daytime and the halos show up well, the tinted lights go well with the moustache with matching grey mirror bases and like at the rear i have fit a new clean number plate and with new clear wing indicators - i think i am getting there.

The ride height i adjusted up at the bodyshop because i didn't want to scrape the front bumper on the journey home, so job for today is drop back down a little but not silly as before.

I have a red nose badge on order btw.

Sorry bonnet is up as i like to trickle charge when i am working all day on the car, got fitment better on that to, i dropped the bracket/catch a few mm.

Ah man, so sorry to hear it was not as you'd expected bud, poor workmanship on something as expensive as a respray is inexcusable. Name & Shame??

You can see the shade difference on this pic .

No paint at all here and the sanding incomplete, this was the only wheel/corner i didn't adjust whilst there or else i would of seen it, i didn't see the many issues until i got back home, something you don't expect to see from time served.

Just want really to put it all behind me and move on.

So disappointing, like Ian said, I hope they will sort the financials out. I can't tell from the pics but am I right in saying its not as glossy as should be either? keep your head up Andy - the transformation is certainly heading in the right direction:)

That rear quarter pic looks like it hasn't been lacquered ?? It's like it's been done in a satin finish??

how much did the paint job cost ?

I feel your pain, Andy. My respray last year was sub-par in quite a few places too.

Sad to see, especially when you were so looking forward to having your Slickie gleaming at the end of it all! :(

Unbelievable mate, i feel your pain, but the guy should have really done a better job than that, it was looking great in some of the earlier photos.

thats why i asked how much did it cost there seems a massive price scale on paint jobs i wonder if its been done on the cheap and the guy has rushed it due to not pricing it up for a proper job like 1500 for a fast over spray kind of thing ?

Sorry to see this. I assume that wasn't what you agreed to, well within your rights to demand an improvement on that.

Sorry to to see this Andy:( hope you get it sorted buddy, this is where I am....my zed really needs a respray to freshen it up but I just don't trust anyone to paint it,the garage I did have earmark to do it the sprayers left :(

I think the term is 'not gone on right' - whatever that means, environment i guess.

I hate reading these horror stories, I hope you get it sorted buddy.

Weds now my saviour is coming round to appraise this :scared:.

Yes it all started very well but when i first saw it after the lacquer i started to fear but with correction methods and some work i thought it'd be ok .

That isn't the case at all, more the reason i am terribly disappointed.

I don't honestly think he's capable, you live and learn.

Another bug bear is the ripple where the bumper meets the wing which you can see here, anyhow this is my kerb light, dipped hid light and halo are on in this pic, had this before so just tested and working perfectly :cool3:.
