Never seen one topping out at 120mph before.

UK cars obviously have 180mph dials. USDM have 160mph dials. Wondering whether it's converted JDM clocks as I think the boost gauge is mmHg rather than PSi. Maybe in the heyday of the grey import trade for these cars, you could simply fit a dial face rather than go through the process of fitting a speed converter?

If it's a custom dial it's a pretty good effort.

Normally the font used is way out compared to the other dials, but this seems to match really well.

Looks odd though!

I fitted a 120mph dial to mine as i was fed up with speed converters screwing up the power steering

Mine still has the 120 mph clocks lol

That's cause you're a pillock Dave. :p :wack:  ;)

Lol my supra and mr2 ones were the same. I've got 180 clocks just cannot be arsed fitting them

You know how hard it is to undo 12 screws

Yeah, you're supposed to use a screwdriver not the crack of your arse to undo them.

Got two of those knocking about somewhere. Back in the day you could get those for tonnes of models, don't know if they are still available.

I have seen that type of speedo as well....

....It was the "lazy" way some early importers converted speedos to read in MPH. Instead of doing a proper conversion, they just added a new face to the dial over the 180km/h one; but reading up to 120mph. The car remains limited to 112mph as before, but at least the driver knows the vehicle speed in MPH up to the J-spec limiter!!

Richard:oops:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That's a point worth bearing in mind. I've never been able to get a satisfactory answer about where the power steering "reads" the speed of the car - whether it is before or after the effects of any converter. This might explain odd steering effects if, eg, the power steering thinks it's doing 80kph when it's really 80mph. Or the other way round.

On my first Z, I just had the dial fitted. And yes mmHg is JDM

On my current Z, I've just left them alone (no aftermarket equivalent for the S6) and get the speed from ECUTalk anyway, officer.

Definitely does affect the PAS with your standard converter chip, and sends the auto trans out of kilter.

Best way I found was to swap resistors on the back of the speedo, get the speed in mph but everything else including the odometer stays as normal in km. I forget how it's done but if anyone is really interested I could take it out and look again.

Reading this has left me wondering what was done to mine when it was imported, it's a 91 TT, the speedo goes to 180 mph and the boost gauge is in psi, got receipts saying everything was converted from kph to mph when it was imported and the speedo appears to be accurate but the odometer is still counting km not miles, anyone have any idea what's going on there?

missed this before I posted, I guess that's what has been done to mine!
