Hi guys I have bought a new 99spec bumper and my cars being sprayed.

But whe put the 99spec bumper and rear bumper in the oven and when it got hot it went all floppy lol.

The painter said he was worried about when i fit them cracking.

Adhesion promoter was used I sprayed it on,

He said not to worry if anything happens he will spray them again.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems or if its normal, he said he thought they was gonna melt they were that soft.

Thank you.

What temperature did he set the oven at? If you're spraying plastics, I'd personally either want them air dried or put in a slow lower temperature bake. Has he used plasticizer in the paint when doing the bumpers? If there's a lack of that, then sure, they have a higher risk of cracking, especially as Z32 bumpers are flimsy.

I sprayed plasticizer/adhesion promoter on it to make sure, im sure he said he baked it at 70% but may be wrong I can find out.

Im getting worried now lol. He said there gone back hard it was only when they were hot.

You need plasticizer in the paint itself. Adhesion promoter only sits on the surface of the substrate you're painting on.

Sorry yeah I had some mipa elastic I gave him, hopefully he used it.

So if his baked it at 70 does that mean its knackered...

It means it 'could' have distorted the bumper. PU bumpers are very flexible and have a relatively low melt point. Trial fit it though. It might be ok. They are quite heavy, so if it has gotten hot enough for it to 'flop', it has a high chancee that the plastic has been stretched, especially if there's no metal bracing/support bar.

I get it back sataday, so im gonna keep my fingers crossed, or im gonna have to strangle him the bumper was 500 bloody quid and a long wait from japan.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Yeah its original I bought it from zcentre took about a month to get it.

I got the original version r skirts too, but don't like 99spec rear spoiler bought one and it looked odd in some angles so got the pedestal type or whatever they call it lol, which I prefer.

Trying to get a slightly different but original smooth look...I hope...

Pretty sure Zcentre or MJP would have them in UK stock?

99-spoiler works well with some cars and others not so well. It's not my favourite as that's near impossible to get hold of. I do like the pedestal ones too. One of my friend's in San Diego has that setup with 99-skirts (or rather 'did'), he's gone over to 99-rear spoiler. I prefer it with the 99 spoiler, but both look just as good. Not a fan of his mirrors or seats, but the car is pretty awesome. The body has over 200k miles on it!

There are also some very cheap and nasty 99-spec spoiler copies too which are moulds taken from copied versions and they just look strange from some angles. Mine is taken from an original.

2+2s REALLY need something on the boot lid as when they're smooth, they just look saggy and frumpy. I rode round in mine with no spoiler and ended up hating its appearance.

If im totally honest I bought the skirts. And there panel clipped like from factory to the seals so I've drilled all the holes so I have to keep them.

And now im not to fussed if they were there or not it makes it look right with 99spec bumper cause the shape of 99spec it looks lower then the skirts and the skirts bring the sides all the same level, but they don't look has smooth has not having them.

I have a 99 bumper here that's getting fitted soon and z centre rear wing this one http://www.zcentre.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.tpl&product_id=327&category_id=87&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=7 its the only spoiler I like

The low level spoiler I quite like and I even like the mid level, think car mad has a mid level on his.

the low level one is the one I have wouldn't go any taller than that my self

Seems like most of us are getting old and like them suttle now lol...

I had a prelude with a 1500quid fibreglass kit and a transit backed into it outside my house it shattered and fell to bits so never bought fibreglass stuff since.

I had a prelude years ago 2001 model 2.2 in black great car. yes am not a fan of fibreglass bumpers my self

Fibreglass makes my skin crawl. I can cope with fibreglass spoilers and that's about it. A fibreglass front bumper is like a chocolate fireguard. lol

I had a j reg 2.2vtec was like nightrider the dash, drove it to spain and everywhere it just wouldn't break I'd have another has a run around any day.

Spoilers and things are ok, but fibreglass hit a ramp or high curb they just crack and snap.

My 99spec I was test fitting it and had a wheel underneath the front, the car fell off the stands with no wheels on the car and the bumper wrapped around the wheel I thought it was gonna be ruined but it popped straight out.

This is a fair point, as some stuff that's made of fibreglass is pretty durable, hot tubs for example.

depends on who makes it

I had your skirts and they were great fitting and fine I just hate front bumpers, cause I always bash them and the standard bumpers flex the fiber glass ive had will crack.

But I could buy 2 of your 99spec bumpers for one original so could look at it that way.

It could be made so strong your wings would bend instead lol.

To be fair I've. Seen just as many poly bumpers split around the vents etc. Really it comes down to how bad you drive
