Tail Lights fitted with Brake Flasher Bulbs

These are genuine 99's tail lights fitted with brake flasher bulbs, they light up red when the side lights are on then under braking they don't get any brighter but they do keep flashing to grab the person behinds attention, they keep going until the brake pedal is released.

Personally I would prefer them to flash for 5 seconds or so like some 3rd brake light modules you can buy and then go solid but I guess the makers in the far east haven't got that far yet with this type of bulb !!

Half way through I switched units to show with one of the chambers normal stop/tail bulb and the flasher in the other.

These are just to show what is possible, you may like you may not, personally I cannot use these on my own before anybody cheekily asks or would I want to anyway, my rear lights are fully converted to led.

I think you must also question there legality as I believe a brake flasher is not against the law as the subject as been touched on before but the fact they don't get brighter might be.......................haha discuss !!

This! I was following an old 406 yesterday doing this and it drove me up the bloody wall! lol

Legality of it aside, I would be concerned by about 99% of road users.

We are all accustomed and ingrained into seeing BRIGHT red lights to mean braking.

If someone was following me (and I had these fitted) I would be concerned that they would waste time wondering what the hell was happening with those lights before they reacted. By which time they could be into the back of me.

I think this is the reasoning that many Marques use the indicators rapid flash to indicate heavy breaking rather than adapting the brake lights.

Mot regulations :

Method of inspection : emits a steady red light

Reason for rejection : emits other than a steady red light when the service brake is applied, or remains on when the brake pedal is released

really don't see the point in this atall

Or an under cover police car.

I didn't appreciate you were going to do it this way, thought you were going to do the third light as a flasher.

Really sorry Andy but Personally I think they're pants. They just look broke. I think if PC plod was behind and that was happening he'd stop you. Not to mention the potential of putting people's concentration off.

Already done that but the module I have causes it just to keep flashing, whereas there are ones on the market you can get that go steady on after a few flashes, these I want to try but spending £20 on a trial basis is not something I want to do, whereas the bulbs in the vid were only £1.50 each so I couldn't resist seeing how they performed.

You've broken my heart :cry::cry::cry:.

They flash too slow. It would be better to have one fitted below number plate in defuser. But they should flash realy fast almoust like staying on

Not a good idea IMO either mate....

Brake lights should come on bright and stay on - everybody else understands that too.... And I also like the idea of the hazards flashing under emergency braking on some modern cars; it's a great safety aid on a motorway!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

would not feel comfortable with them on my car at all...and i bet neither would your insurance in the event of a rear shunt:scared:

Haha nice try but not as good as my brake repeater

On the subject of legality - surely my repeater is legal? In fact actually you don't even need to have a brake repeater for an MOT so what could it possibly fail on....
