Got my insurance renewal in the post the other day and it has more than doubled in price from last year!

I was with sureturm, but as mentioned by si in a previous thread they no longer insure grey imports, or In their words " we advise that following a change in product range means we are not able to offer you a quotation through enterprise insurance group for you renewal".

They did however go on to say that they have searched their panel of insurers and can insure me through Lancaster insurance for £527.77.... More than double the price of last year!!!

I have been onto a few comparison sites and nearly all were quoting over £2000, one even wanted over £10,000!

I have yet to ring around some of the specialist insurers as by the time I get home from work there isn't enough time.

Has anyone else that were with sureturm had this issue?

Any recommendations?

Ouch... And I thought insurance had gone down this year:shock:

 

Your best bet it to try the specialist companies directly - eg:

 

Lancasters (which you already have)

Lynbrooks

Adrian Flux (they are traders on here, so don't forget to mention you are a member)

Sky

I'm not sure if the price has gone up due to the modifications, not that there is many, or because I've lost my ncb due to being on a classic policy for over 2 years.

I must add this is a second car and is on a classic car policy, that may have something to do with the price

hi bud had the exactly the same prob with the same company and the same excuse as well i went on comparison site am paying 220 but am 59

I am going to go with Lynbrooks as they quoted £220 on classic with all mods declared........

I Still have a couple of weeks left to sort out my insurance, so will be making quite a few hours worth of phone calls in that time.

I just need to get it as low as possible as I have loads of bits to sort out on the car at the moment, so money is pretty tight! (Especially as my weekly wages are MINISCULE!)

how do you all get insured under classic? i tried on my 1992 300zx but was told it wasnt old enough?

We get classic insurance because our zeds are classed as classics :)

Its usually the compare sites that don't count them that way.

Sureterm are a bunch of cowboys anyway. I took out Classic with them in 2009. It was only £120 but I had a lot of other outgoings at the time so went for monthly payments of £8.90. I had a seperate account for my debit payments so put £10 in to cover it. Sureterm tried to take £17.80 which is a double payment for some reason and then charged me a £50 admin fee because the DD was returned. They then done the same thing again the following day with another £50 charge!!

My bank phoned me the next and told me so I had a blazing row with them and cancelled the policy.

They have now been trying to recover the admin charges from me through various debt collection agencies for nearly 5 years. I keep telling them that if you think that I owe you this, then stop fkn phoning me and take me to court.

The last time I had this conversation with them ( yesterday) they repeated the same old bullshit of "they won't take you to court as they still think there's a chance the debt can be cleared outside of court! WTF!?! It's 5 years!

Strange thing is though this has never showed up on my credit report?

Try Livinstones Warman. All 3 of my cars are insured through them.

£205 for the 300 on a classic policy (limited mileage)

yes this is the issue... you can get cheap insurance but some factors apply..

one is limited mileage, another is UK model car.. lots of insurance companies don't want to touch JDM card.

 

both my wife and I have JDM, her's is a Pejero ... we juust have to pay more.

 

I also use mine as a daily and so run up about 15k miles p/a so stuck paying £550 ... :(

 

(Oh i also have one speeding infringement, so that doesn't help)

I just tried sky and after a load of questions i asked for the agreed value insurance of which he said the would underight it and send me a value in a week or two when i take out the insurance with them.i said no you give me a price send out paperwork ill fill it in send it back with pics then you agree a value and send out paper for me to read and sign them ill give you your money. They said no.then i said good buy

I don't think my insurance has ever gone up since I've been driving.

if anything, mine should have gone down as i no longer have points.

thats really odd, as my car insurance has gone down with lancaster this year from 220 to 200...
