Noticed on the way home last night that the gear change was quiet heavy as in it took some effort to move the gear stick in to each gear.

Now my DD is a 2.0 Zafira and the gear change is nice an easy, this is the first manual Zed I've had the last 2 were both Auto's so have nothing to compare it against.

Is there a problem or are they just like that????

Zed boxes do need positive imput thats for sure and each change feels "gated" but they should not be crunchy when warm and upto temp...sounds like it needs an oil change and lads here sware by this paticular oil but atm i cant think of its name..hit the search button and see what comes up.

I've already thought about an oil change as it was sat for a year. And yes seen that MT 90 is the way to go, but looking it's like £70 for 4 litres, and correct me if I'm wrong but the box only hold 2.8 litres??

Before doing an oil change to check the linkage, commonly the bushes wear out, now be it by accident or design as a consequence the linkage bolt gets over tightened and makes for a stiff operation of the gear lever. If when the car is stationary and the engine off the same problem is evident then it almost certainly will be the linkage bolt too tight.

If it is the linkage Jeff what do I do to rectify this? Where are the bolts to loosen the old girl up?

Under the car above the gearbox, however if you can unscrew the gear knob ( some can be very tight ) you can then take the centre consule section out and pull up all of the gaitors and remove the bottom plate, this will give you access to the 12mm nut and bolt, just loosen a few turns, its a shake proof nut so does not need to be rock tight.

Could it just be the fact that its been sat for a year? I parked my astra up for 3 months & the gear change was quite heavy for a while when I got it back on the road.

Yes Jeff got access as the gear gait or isn't secured so can get at it. Will take the top route I think. Sounds easiest lol.

True it could be that. But will check all things, as need it to be tip top before the major work commences. Gonna to. Sort a few dents and respray the DD driver first so got a little bit of time make sure the old girls is running as best as she can be.

your that eager to shoot me your not thinking Neil...i thought you meant the bottom rubber gaited plate on top of gearbox tunnel..if this is loose or not seated right then the noise that comes up is insane. Now stand at ease with your rifle on "safety" private:D

Ok picture to give you a guide for the bolt and what Znut was on about was the gaitor been loose will let transmission noise in to the cabin.
