Hi guys

Just bough myself an imported '92 300zx TT 5 speed manual , absolutely love the car but when i got told they'd have problems i didn't expect this fast!

so! , i got the car back sunday night , working fine , test drove fine ! in the morning i took the car to work about 7 miles ! and pshhhhhhhhhhhhh off comes the power steering belt happily taking the a/c one with it too ! , 20 quid for the 2 belts ...sorted

Number 2- a little smoke when idling , got told by the previous owner this was down to an oil seal leak on the drivers side turbo and only smoked a little when idling ( which was true) never the less i do want to look into it and would like advice

Number 3 - as i was coming out of work today i've gave the girl a little clutch kick . not sure what clutch is in it as this got replaced when the engine underwent a rebuild approx. 4000 miles ago , anyways now the clutch is stinking! real bad, but not slipping! i,m hoping its just a little left over burning that should go within a few days:oops:

also when idling the engine sits at around 2000 rpm but after a while drops to approx. 1000, didn't know if this was supposed to happen as a measure of keeping the engine cool so i thought i better ask the experts on it !

cheers in advance guys

instantly fallen in love with the car even if it does hammer the pocket!

look forward to posting many more threads just hopefully not all problem solving !

Josh!

People are going to ask for pictures mate :-)

All I know is mine Idles high till it warms up, bit lower if you switch the air con to econ mode. Should settle below 1000.

Clutch kick lol I just flex my right foot slightly.

Hi and welcome... like tomfromthenorth said twice (lol) if you are running the fan the car will be using the air con and idle higher.

if not then you have an issue with what cold be many things from timing to a good clean out...

this is a good one to get started on...

Now then bud, welcome to the forum, I've heard there's a new one in Redcar from a few people, as already stated pictures are a must.

There's always something else to be fixed on a car of this age, but i'm sure you'll sort it. I could pop by for a look if you fancy bud.

As for your idling, mines always idled high from cold, or if its just off the boost. as long as they're not hunting i'm sure they'll be fine.

The turbo oil leak is one of my biggest fears, and I wouldn't know where to start, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with the right advice.

The turbo oil seal means engine out from what I've been told.

Mine does it too a bit, although don't know which turbo from as I've got a single exit exhaust.

It doesn't really bother me as its not that bad, plus with the fact the car will still piss all over most of the people's cars who mock it makes me feel better about it :)

Anyway welcome to the forum mate and as already stated..... Get some photos up :)

Thanks everyone, il get some pictures up !. i know the turbos lay quite deep in so was expecting a engine out job to sort it , the way i see it is if it goes that just means time for some bigger turbos !

there's still many plans for the car! Ste i only knew you had it when Marco mentioned it ! , i hadn't seen one around Redcar for a while !, also a lad in work mentioned you he drives a honda civic saloon ? and a meet up would be cool as i'm sure you have a lot more info on them than i do !

Cheers Guys !

I know a couple of guys with civic saloons, may have to narrow it down a little. I work with your mate Crocker too.

There's some Honda meet in Hartlepool tonight, I'm been a bit of a rebel and tipping up in the zed, but we're all meeting in Majuba between 7:00 and halfpast. if your bored pop down.

Welcome to the forum, as you have seen plenty of help and advice on here, we are a friendly bunch too.....lol. Nice Zed you have there, and I am sure you will sort the little niggles out without too much trouble.

Welcome to the club Josh - that's a nice looking car you have bought mate!!

Hopefully, as above, you only have some minor teething problems that will be fixed by a decent service. Do remember that even the newest of the cars (99-spec excluded as they are so rare)are 18 years old now so you will encounter a few problems. But to be fair, the 300zx is not an especially problematic car - it's a Nissan after all - and people only ever talk about problems, never that their car is running perfectly!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
