I can confirm that the perpex strip is easy to break. Tried to remove the new one I just fitted to drill another hole and it snapped. Another trip up to mike at mjp coming up soon.

 there a bugger and imho far too fragile

i know had one on there a month and when it when in for respray the body shop broke it but they did pay for a new one

They are virtually impossible to remove without snapping the damn thing.

yep..class them as a consumable item the same as brake pads and you wont be disapointed.

....as a tip, undo all the nuts and gently push from where the third brakelight is, this is the strong part of the unit. Pull it from either end and and it will snap/crack/shit its pants. If you haven't got the third brakelight, use something flat and wide and push from the centre out. It'll gradually release. Don't remove the nuts completely either, lightly push those after you've loosened the central part. Once it's free, remove the nuts completely and carefully remove it.

....gradually lift it up from the bottom of the very centre of the strip. That'll lift it also.

Thank you for the advice matey. This may have convinced me to go for the 89 spec spoiler from car mad its less hassle.

The perspex strip isn't hassle mate. I've never had a problem with then. They are delicate, I agree, but they're not that bad.

put some silicone sealant into the narrow vertical channels either side of the brake repeater section (as this is where the tend to break - I would know I have had two broken ones) and it helps a lot. You can use blak sealant. You won't see it once the strip is fitted

Another tip....for keeping it clean and polished (as well as your rear lights - if you have lovely 99 spec rears of course), Mr Sheen and a very fluffy soft cloth (like a duster) brings out any swirls and gives the plastic really deep lustre.
