true supras are nice back in the states when i was looking for for a car to buy it was between the mitsubishi 3000gt vr4, toyota supra, chevy camaro rs and the chevy monte carlo ss. ive never heard of a 300zx until i was offered one, it was a 90 na manual swb t tops. i immediately bought it was a no brainer for me and ive never looked back since! even when relocating to the uk the first thing i did was buy what i have now.

there not that easy to tune as you cant remap them and if im honest they are no easier to work on and have same issues appearing as 300zx broken wiring connectors and so on

plus theres no where near the the amount of performance upgrade parts avaliable for suspension etc

and ive had them a long time myself and they dont handle like a z if im honest

Lets face it the supra is a 1990's handbag, yeah its tuneable yes its a great looking car, but the reality is its not actually as amazing or easy as people make out, its a victim or success what ever way you look at it of the fast and furious saga. Same as the skyline, every 18 year old thinks you can get 1000 hp out these cars without breaking a sweat the truth is it will cost you a serious wedge, and a lot of time. For the outlay of what you'd have to pay to get a twin turbo manual supra you could get your current z32 to a spec that would be a reliable tarmac eating rocket ship.

and you wont get as much power out the stock supra turbos that you will from the z stock turbos either as there ceramic again unless you find a uk car that has original steels

The uk cars are the holy grail of supra's arn't they? With the steel turbos, larger injectors and don't they come with the sixspeed box? hence the reason a uk supra is so much more expensive than a jspec one.

Yeah the uk one is better. In my honest opinion, I love the supras and always have. But I love my 300 too

all tt had 6 speed box uk or jap

but uk ones had diff cooler 550cc injectors steel turbos slightly bigger but also ran a maf as apposed to a map sensor

Bigger alloys and brakes to and 99% of them are autos and they came with cream seats carpets etc.

I had one the same time as my zed. Had the supra for about 5 years and the zed now 7. It was no contest for me which was the drivers car and more fun on the twisties. The seating position on the zed is miles better.

I found the supra the be a bit dull Tbh. We sold it and bought. A 330d take the looks out of the equation even the bm is a much nicer car to drive.

I will never have a soop again

I still love the Supra, never been as keen on them as the 300zx but still a fan.

I remember an old Max Power mag I had at school with a Top Secret 1000bhp Supra and a 1000bhp Skyline (Both in gold)

But I still prefer the old school Celica Supra model!!!

I test drove a MKIV TT Auto BPU and it was incredibly underwhelming.

I have been in one with around 800whp and that was fun.

I have :)

I like the Supra - it is a great car, but fugly!! It has aged very badly TBH; making the ZX look so much more timeless in comparison.....

.....UK spec cars are better; being better equiped, with bigger brakes, better turbos and 326bhp as standard. But still a bit "myopic" looking and only black or silver suits the shape. Plus the dash is a mis-match of styles compared to the clean, tidy, logical set-up of the ZX.

For me, whilst the Mk4 is a technological breakthrough, the Mk3 is my favourite Supra. Knightrider retro-good looks are more credible as a modern classic IMO....!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Guess what Supra owners say about the 300zx though......"Dated Exterior and terrible interior". Its certainly the more popular choice and commands a higher price.

Personally I would say the Supra is a more modern looking sports car, I've always preferred the rear to the front, but colour and exterior mods play a big part to how both cars look.

On Paper they are VERY similar cars. Near identical spec and performance. They are definitely the 2 closest rivals of all the Jap RWD Powerful Sports cars.

Its well known that Toyota went back to drawing board with the MkIV Supra when Nissan launched the 300zx, and in some areas it shows. Its a better built car, feels nice and solid, quieter, smoother and the straight six turbo sounds great.

I don't feel its as much of a drivers car though. Its just as capable on the road as the Z, but It feels larger and heavier behind the wheel and I never have the same confidence to chuck it around a roundabout that I do in a 300zx. I prefer the Z Interior and I feel the Z has more character.

Very similar cars, but really comes down to which one you personally prefer.

LOL - very true mate!!

Although the F&F films have contributed a lot towards the higher desirability of the Supra....

Of course it's down to personal preference; and like you I do rate the Supra highly (as I said) and would - read almost bought - buy one!! The UK spec Soops are fast also - posting 0-100 times in the low 12s. Both the ZX and Supra totally outclass the Mitsi 3000GT/GTO according to most of the motoring press of the day - but (and yes it might be personal opinion) the 300zx still has supercar timeless good looks. To say the Supra is "modern" looking in comparison to sports cars of today - 20 years after its launch - is a bit much for me though mate.....

Although having said that, many modern "so called" sports cars are pretty shite looking TBH. Sure current super/hyper cars look great - but the every day affordable sports cars (370z, GT86 thingy etc) just don't do it for me....

I remember in the early to mid-90,s a brand spanker TT pulling out of my local nissan dealership and i ended up behind it at the lights just looking at it gobsmacked by its complexity and sheer form and funtion...when i look at a standed looking zx head on and my eyes are drawn to the "coke bottle" shape of the front wings and the way the front lights become one line with the bonnet and nose panel... even now i still have the same feelings looking at these cars that i had at them lights many years ago. Not another car that ive owned or not has gave me the same desire to own one as the ZX.
