Right I took my car round castle Combe at japfest,

Last Friday I was sat at traffic lights and noticed smoke (blue) out of drivers side exhaust,

Got home and left her running with no smoke after 5 minutes there was smoke again out of drivers exhaust, this kept happening while sat there 5 minutes nothing then 2 minutes of smoke,

The next day I started her, there it was again this time more constant but not as thick,

I topped up the oil and took her for a drive, for the first 10 minutes there was intermittant smoke then the rest of the journey (1/2 hour) there was nothing apart from a little puff from passenger sude( don't think my exhaust has a x or h pipe)

Took it to work and back today with no smoke!!!

Now first thoughts was turbo seals but now I'm not sure, I'm thinking the track session caused oil to be sucked into the plenum via the pcv system, I did notice some pooling in both banks when I took the balance bar off.

Could it just have been some of this oil burning off if it was drawn into the cylinders or does it sound more sinister?

does sound PVC related if it didn't smoke before and has settled back down again

There was fresh oil in the pcv pipes too( silicon with no filter stuff in them)

Im just hoping it is pooled oil rather then turbo related,

Thanks for your reply Jaffa :-)

I had the same the first time i took mine down the strip at pod, never done it since, my only guess was too much oil in (had a oil change since then) with hard acceleration, the oil has got sucked into the PCV system and found its way into the plenum and down into the chambers when resting the car on the que lane.

Bit worrying to start with, but once it cleared its never come back again so must of been that.

Good link cheerZ Gaz, I'll do that re-route when I fit my injectors, looks like a nice n simple procedure :-)

no probs just stumbled across it on my google diagnostics :)

I honestly think tahts what it is when you think about most of castle combes corners drag the body weight in the wrong direction causing it to pool in the passenger side exhaust cam cover, which is where the idle pcv takes its feed from. Makes sense when you think about it, then its going to take a 100 miles or so for it to burn out through the system.

The best advice would be to drain all of your oil if you intend on tracking the car, then fill it back up when you get home. After all, you only really need oil if you're in reverse gear.

Heh heh.....

Seriously though mate, it does sound like you probably don't actually have a problem with your car. More likely it is the oil being thrown around by the inertia of blatting round the track - especially if it has stopped smoking now. I'd leave it for a bit; keep driving it as normal and watch the smoke/oil level. If you have no further issues after a month or two, you know there's nothing wrong!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
