Ok guys, still a bit skint after buying my zed in Feb. Car is in red and in standard stock form with black leather trim and factory wheels. I don't really mind the standard rims tbh and replacing tyres will obvs be a more economical task. (The car had 350z alloys on at the garage that was selling it, which I wasn't too fussed on and negotiated a substantial discount if they were swapped back)

I've been toying with giving the car/rims a new lease of life as a cheap 'pimp' by painting them a different colour to stock. I had in mind either a satin black, a darkish/gunmetal metallic or maybe even gold?

Anybody thoughts/suggestions on this subject or any pics of similar projects would be gladly appreciated....

Cheers

Steve J

Yeah that's pretty much the shade I had in mind Paul. I like the look of that, and reckon it would compliment my red paint quite nicely...

I had mine powder coated at a place in Birmingham, 100 pounds for all four ( finish is A1) , ( boots off , and on plus balanced) one word of advise , if they are splits make sure you have them resealed correctly first, if you want the details let me know ,

Wow £25 a corner sounds pretty cheap. How long does that take and is there a variety of colour to choose from?

Yeah, they look smart. What colour is ur car?

Chrome powder wheels...car is black but i dont have them paticular wheels anymore. they cost £40 each to paint.

Hi Steve, they do them in a day ( that may cost a little more ) , and there are many colours to choose from, they are called City Powder Coatings Benacre Dr Birmingham, West Midlands B5 5RF

0121 448 7646, they are small and are open on Saturdays, However a word of warning they do get VV busy and you may need to expedite them to ensure they are going to complete on time, and ensure you inspect each wheel there, any defects will be corrected, my wheels were A1,

Ta bud. I'll bear these in mind, but its about 180 mile round trip from mine which I'd have to factor in (juice-wise) to the costing.....

Yeah Birkenhead is handy-ish to me, what was the damage for a set of 4? Did u have to de-rubber them or have they got the facilities?

Must admit I do quite like that colour u got there, retaining that 'stock' look with just a hint of 'pimping', lol

For a red car on stock wheels - I'd say stick to the silver alloy colour mate.....

.....coloured wheels can look good; and black wheels suit a red ZX if they are bigger, wider with a silver outer rim and deeper dish.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Richard, I thank you for your advice bud. I've washed & waxed it today and knocked out a few pics whilst out n about today. When I came back and was looking through them, I was thinking exactly the same thing.....they suit it silver!

Here's my blog with a few of the pics on....

I haven't made up my mind totally yet, but until I can rustle up funds for a wheel upgrade, I think I'll probably keep em standard....

You're welcome mate.....

.....and that's a tidy 300zx you have there Steve!! There's nothing at all wrong with the standard wheels - and keeping them silver on your shiney red ZX is a good call IMO!!

Yeah, I would do mate, but the car is alread becoming a money-sponge! I am going to have to plan my work/investments on it a bit more carefully. I think I will probably upgrade the wheels from stock eventually, so would be better making-do with my standards and putting money towards a 'new' set rather than buy an interim set to tide me over, although the 'new' ones I buy will almost certainly not be new!

Thats why my thoughts were around painting, just to add a bit of personalisation to my motor as a cheap alternative for the time being....
