2 years ago, my tax ran out of the zed, sorned it, and started doing various jobs, whilst trying to save cash and doing all the jobs myself, ive replaced with new interior, suspension, and loads of other stuff. BUT MY Main issue was removing the veilside skirts, and it opened a can of worms. rot in the sills, targas draining into them and what started as small areas of rust soon developed into nasty stuff.

After choping it all out, it was getting very worrying, as i thought this is the end of a very late spec UK TT Manual.

But after a bit of time, i replaced the inner sills and returns with new, and had them welded up. so at least the inside stuff was good.

I made new out sills, for both sides, only riveted as to get the shape.

for ages i wanted to get it all fixed as it has to be seam weled for MOT, this i cannot do, as my welding skills are not bad, but i cause more damage whilst trying, and due to money problems the zed was put on hold.

During doing all the other bits on the car in my spare time, and saving where i could. i managed to get a pal to finish it all off, so off she went saying goodbye to me.

I thought when he got started it would be the zed of another zed, even though i had tried my best to save her.

Since late January its been sitting in his workshop, and he does bits when he can between other jobs, but he is doing it at mates rate's plus i do all his plumbing and building work for very cheap.

Every week i pop in there to see if there has been any progress, but none or very little had been done, the zed just looked so sad sitting there doing nothing, on axle stands gathering dust.

Then last friday it all changed, i visited again only to find one side completely finished, and now doing the other side, but had found a bit more rust that had been unseen.

Get a phone call this morning, "stu, your zed is back on your driveway, all done"

Like a kid at christmas i zoom home to find my lady sitting there.

All new sills both sides, any areas of rust have gone, new targa drains replaced with copper / brass

I can now say i have a rot free UK zed,

Well chuffed is an understatement, turned the key and she fired into life instantly, a little bit tappy, but this went within 2 minutes. everything working, purring.

Need to put the interior and seats back in, and and check everything. but hopefully ready for MOT.

Nice to see zeds saved form the scrappy, and be able to live for a good few more years.

Sounds like a plan Mr P And Andrew, this time i wont have to play catch up in a van, to keep everyone under control. Since our last run down the A24 across to Brighton we have alot more local zeds, i know of 10 plus in sussex alone, a few who are now members here, give it a couple of weeks, and i will get messaging folk, and get things arranged for a Boxhill to Brighton run, see if we can better the last number of zeds, i think we had in the teens turn up, would be good to get over 20.
