  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

It's actually shite tea. thankfully tea is not a safety feature.

Profound. I could ask who woke you up too, seeing as your sole contribution to this place nowadays is to bitch at people.

Usually at Jeff, but it's good to see you're broadening your horizons at last.

Quite the healthy self-opinion there, sir. What about your current contribution though...? ;)

Americans.

funny how small stuff like this sticks Si...i still ask the missus to put the bags in the trunk. Notice you use the word "Huh" a lot too after spending a vast amount of time in Trump land:wink:

Foe...? I'd say "sparring partner" at best...

As for the A66, I can only assume you're on about the part from Scotch Corner to The Lake District. As the A66 around Middlesbrough and Darlington is predominantly 50mph and full of traffic!

Yes from the lakes (my end) to the corner is just fab but all the way seems the same excluding the speed limit...I will admit my visits always seem to fall on weekends but i have a re-roof up there to do soon so maybe my perception might change when ime hunting down building yards at 7.30 am during the week days:helpsmilie:

Growing balls is something I did quite some time ago, I also managed to grow some hair around them too unlike some

Anyway, after the research on the tyres I'm currently running, those ichiminge things si, they are actually rated as A for economy and B for wet grip so I wouldn't have the opinion that they are below standard for a Z.

The tyre being the thing in contact with the road is one part of the braking system, however if you try to stop said rubber with a set of stock brakes, it is incredibly different to stopping said rubber with massive brembos.

So even if I fitted a set of those spanky top of the range well researched and advertised bits of rubber, the brakes that are actually trying to stop it turning are going to make a whole lot of difference aren't they? Or do we just fit brembos to our cars for the name?

And if we go back to the start and look at what was said when I mentioned nankang tyres, it was said by you that I should fit quality rubber instead of budget tyres..

So I'm struggling to understand why you would be confused when it annoys me that you point the finger at the tyres I chose initially to fit to my Stock powered Z and say they are "budget"

Also implying that I don't seem to give a rats arse wether the tyres are safe when I also carry my family in the z on occasion.

On the point of growing balls, maybe you could sprout a little tact in the way you attack a subject si?

I understand your passion with safety, but I also understand that people can't always afford the highest quality safety precautions regardless of wether they wish to or not.

A set of top grade tyres for my car would be nice, also completely unnecessary and overkill for the car, but as a full set would cost me around £500-£600 I'm afraid my life isn't as fortunate as some others.

I work a 60 hour minimum week in a job that risks my life everyday and get paid a mediocre wage that just about supports my family and pays for the few decent things I own in life. I haven't had a holiday for around 8 years due to financial issues but regardless, the car is always looked after and given the best possible safety solutions and care, otherwise it wouldn't be on the road.

If someone wants to put the money for some top quality rubber I'm my bank account, then by all means I'll fit the best that's out there, if not, don't criticise me for doing the best I can do.

And certainly don't try and ridicule me over it.

To be honest, if it were changing one axle, I'd probably fit a grippier better brand tyre, however as I am on a staggered set up and it's one from the rear and one from the front that need replacing, it's going to be twice as expensive as it couldve been as it'll be all four corners being replaced.

Anyway,to the majority, thanks for the advice..

In the interest of discussion, stock brakes can lock up even sticky tyres, hence why they have an ABS unit. That means that the brakes are exceeding the tyres grip.

The thing stock brakes are especially bad at is repeated stopping.

Not that I think many will be interested but here's a link to a video where nankang tyres tested them on track on a 900bhp 350Z and a 450bhp mitsubishi evolution..

Enjoy... Not bad for a "budget" brand?

To basically to simplify our discussion here would be an example spectrum of tyres to use:

budget sport tyres - nankang - pzeros - eagle F1 - pilot sport cup 2

That's based on grip specfications on tyrereviews.co.uk (to standardise results)

Its your choice where you go on this spectrum. You get more for what you pay for, and I want to be safe with a powerful vehicle which is why I went for the pzeros (I dont want to do a Dan :innocent:), but it does still come down to budget.

I agree with you to some degree Alic, however safety is also about ability and experience aswell.

Driving in a way that fits the environment you're In and within the specification of the vehicle and knowing its limits and your own.

Let's just say I've got a lot of miles under my belt and more than most after driving as a career for 23 years.

As of yet I am accident free and killed or injured no one regardless of the tyres I've had on at the time, be they ichiminge or Bridgestone etc..

It's not just down to your equipment. If you have the safest car setup in the universe, it still won't help you if you're a retard behind the wheel.

At the end of the day, it's up to people what they want to do with their cars. Budgets, options, desirability, reviews, marketing etc. all play a role in what we buy. We would all like to buy the best of everything and in an ideal world we would. These are hobby cars for most, so take a back seat to daily priorities. I don't like it when people try to force their views on everyone else, it is after all, a car forum for advice and banter. You can advise (from experience) what you consider the best option in your opinion is, but it's not fair to roast a guy if he doesn't follow your advice, that's what I'm seeing here (correct me if I'm wrong). I myself have used Kuhmo Ecstas on the Z (when it was driving), Avon's on the Supra and as most of you will be disappointed to hear:whistling: I got big ass brakes with part-worn Dunlop and Bridgestone tyres, (saying that it hasn't moved much and they'll probably be past they're "sell by" date by the time the car is ready). But it is my choice at the end of the day. :innocent:

If it goes "Tits up" I'm sure there'll be plenty of "Told you So's". but it's down to the individual to decide.

:innocent:I feel this whole tyre discussion should be in the help and advice anyway, not in the "What did you do to your Zed today" thread.:innocent:

Just my opinion.:whistling:
