  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Surely your car is far too gorgeous for an, *ahem*, hideous lump like that?!?

Why not something much more modern? I've got one of these, haven't installed it yet though. Should be much easier to locate somewhere as it's very shallow. I must admit I'm slightly confused why people are still hankering over really old models that look a bit naff imo...

I know it's not pretty, but it's functional and will be hidden away. For reference, this is what I have done; the TIM gauge is also not particularly attractive, but it's a decent quality, reputable brand and doesn't cost too much. As a bonus, the black line where the band goes from orange to red is 16psi which what my max boost is set to so it's a handy reference for accurately proving the pressures set on the ebc. It's also proven that the stock boost gauge is pretty accurate.

I just got the fronts done and the tyre fitter says he prefers the Goodyear Eagle F1 to the PZero. I was really impressed with the PZero, especially giving the car quite a thrashing through the Gorge de l'ardeche in southern France a few years ago. I found them extremely grippy and pushed the car really quite hard. Joel has the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and he has been happy with those. I have the Asymmetric 3, which are supposed to be marginally grippier, so looking forward to seeing how they behave.

I was going to enquire with you guys about new rears as mine are super squirmy at the moment under load. I will look at the Pzeros first I think by the sound of it.

Check the date stamp on them, it'll be on the tyre-wall somewhere, it'll give a 4 digit code, the week and also year of manufacture. My new tyres for example have 2317 on them (week 23 of 2017). Tyres go hard over time as the rubber degrades. Really they should be changed at around 5 years old irrespective of mileage just like cam belts.

Look at the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - people are generally suggesting they're a little better than the PZero. When 'Car' did a test of them, they came out second beneath Continental which I nearly went for.

Took the zed for a trip over to Protune, spent most of the day with Pete, aka Dougal200 whilst his beloved Zed was being mapped.

I have to say, the work being carried out was impressive to say the least.

As for Pete, what a thoroughly nice chap, really knows his stuff and has a very nice Zed also.

Great meeting you buddy. :thumbup1:

Greg at protune I take it? Just had mine done there..what a guy he is a genius, cars never ran so well and made just under 500bhp :))

Yesterday but hey.

Fed a wire from front fog to the rear so the fogs lights run off the same button so I can rid that horrible button in the centre console.

Split the centre panel chambers for fogs at the top and reverse lights at bottom

Modified the reflectors in the rear bumper to house a bulb and wired into the side light loom.

And fitted on the (last?) 99 rep rears from phtumschdef90a74ccd8cddab2b9c8b07731705f.jpg

Do you have a Nistune Gray?

Yes bud all set up by Greg,he had the car for a week setting it up and getting it right..but wow the difference from when Noel mapped it is something else:) and it's safe lol, I'd recommend him all day long.

Yes, the very same.

Just watching over the space of a couple of hours, you could see the audible and visual changes evolving.

Awesome.

Before swapping the wheels for my current ones, the 19s which were on had conti sports on and thr level of grip was astonishing especially in the wet. I was under the impression that F1s are good but are quite soft and wear quicker...is this still the case?

PS thanks for the date stamp idea, wasnt aware of that. will most certainly be looking into that in future, especially as good tyres can be nearly £200 a pop.

Yes contis are superior to f1 but usually a good bit dearer too

I paid around £650 for a full set of Goodyear Eagle F1. That doesn't include fitting, balancing and tyre disposal though. I'm fitting them one by one so I can clean the inside properly and do some suspension adjustment in between.

£750 all-in which is pretty good as most tyre places charge around £850.

This is on my list of things to do once I get the 740s! I'll get Greg to map it around 17PSi too...should make things a little more entertaining. :) (Currently 14Psi)

From what I understand and what the tyre guys say (they're a local well established and well regarded independent), Conti Sport Contacts are only marginally better than the Eagle F1s in terms of grip, but they sacrifice heavily in terms of wear rating to obtain that small margin.

Those are some big injectors for stock turbos.

Good to know, slightly unnecessary though, no?

Not at all. Converting to a pinteless injector is futureproofing. I do not want 555s as they're not pinteless. 740s are very tunable, readily available and reliable.
