  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

My bay is starting to look all enginey again. [emoji106] The vvt solenoids are resealed and the rocker covers are now torqued down with new crush washers. The plenum has been modified to allow clearance for the (new style) connector on the #1 and also to give access to all 6 injector fasteners without plenum removal.

A couple of tidy up jobs to do with the plenum off (it's only slaved on) then it'll be the final push and function/leak checks. After that, I have to install the ebc harness and vacuum hose through the passenger side wheel arch and into the glove box.

Is there a reason you've decided to all this in the summer when you could be driving it? [emoji13]

A good question indeed! It was only supposed to be a quick job (ain't that always the way!). To be fair, the man hours spent on it hasn't been overly significant, but I've just been chipping away when I can. The window I originally had to complete the job was rudely interrupted by other commitments.

It has been long enough though, I'm glad I'm sorting it out now and I enjoy keeping myself occupied with these kind of tasks. In the winter when it's miserable I'd rather not be freezing out in the garage! For me the thrill of the chase is just as much fun as the enjoyment from driving the car; certainly for this job anyway as it's nice and straight forward, other jobs are no fun at all!!

Another thing I've been pondering on is the Z-spec throttle body mechanism covers; I don't think I'm going to refit them. Any thoughts on this? Originally they were a convenient way to cover up a messy mechanism (dirty/corroded), but now I've taken the time to clean it up a little, my opinion on them has changed.

I'm not keen on the being black that's for sure as I think they break up the components of the manifold too abruptly from an aesthetic perspective.

Yup, leave 'em off. They look a little 'home-made'. That throttle linkage is actually a nice looking bit of engineering if all cleaned up.

On your so clean engine off looks better.

Love the look of the mechanism personally, especially when they are in such a clean condition as yours.

A bit like seeing the workings of an expensive clock for example.

That's what I think too.....

Showing the mechanism is a good bit of retro-cool; especially nowadays, when modern engines are all hidden under plastic covers:thumbup:

So engine out, I took the next 8 hours stripping everything off that car. Front subframe, wiring loom, brake master etc.

And it's done and ready for the scrap heap.

What an exhausting day

Looks like you have had a very productive day Alic. :sweatdrop::thumbup1:

Yep, thankfully we both have working cars this year so I can take it easy this next week :)

I installed my subframe collars today. I have to say the difference is noticable.....especially when the Hicas is doing his thing

Oh yes, and I also serviced my car today. Oil change with filter, the FSM says 3,4L of oil. I've put in 3,5L but still no oil on the dipstick. Anyone knows how much goes in it? I guess it's more?

My UK spec takes 4L to refill to middle/top mark on dipstick.

Great modification Andrew.....!!

Another productive few hours in my garage today; I managed to get the plenum installed and the fuel system completed with all new hoses, spring clamps and a filter. The coilpacks and new injector harness is loomed in and just a few loose ends to sort out on the rest of the electrics and pneumatic system before I can hit the road and feel the boost!

Tomorrow, I'll hopefully get the chance to get the fuel system pressurised to do the necessary leak checks and continue plugging away.
