  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

As promised a picture of the newly painted brake callipers that I shall be fitting tomorrow evening.....

IMG_1589.jpg

They have Brand new shim kits and Brembo pads fitted as well......

I am unsure about the speed bleeders though as not sure if they are sealing or they are too short..... seems very close and not sure if I ran out of thread before they sealed......

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

The calipers look great Russ, love the colours. Jay, the Z is looking tasty mate. Did you clay the car without polishing? I've found that claying leaves marring behind on mine so have to follow with a quick spruce of the polisher! Although I normally clay to decontaminate before a polish, I am obsessed!

The kit came with a quick detail spray, so I used that on the whole car and also used a proper wax on the clayed panels.

Junkman has possessed you Joel

Looks nice, did you get thinker leather or padding? Surprise you 3 spoke guys don't get the thumb rest/grips. Is that standard leather or Napa leather?

Going to let leatherwheels cover mine with the thicker padding in nappa leather with the sides perforated.

I considered fattening up the wheel, but you loose some of the lines and the profile of the middle spoke which carries on to the horn pad, so I decided to keep the thickness stock. I don't like the thumb rests. I've seen it done and they just don't look right for some reason.

The leather is Italian hide - that's as far as I know. I'm sure Mondo can tell you more!

The leather is Perrone Noir from Italy. Si specifically wanted something that was going to be a close match for the texture of the centre pad, so the leather needed to have a reasonable grain and a matt finish, so the Perrone got the gig. :)

As a rule, I tend to use Scottish leather more than anything else but Italian hide has it's uses...

I found that you defo need to polish after a clay bar, plus it just gives you a much better finish after all that claying!!

Couldn't resist taking the Z on today's commute... The targas were just begging to be removed in today's weather!!

In theory you should seal it with a good wax after, to prevent corrosion.

I use the Auto glym clay bar kit when I do mine.... The detailed acts as a lubricant for the clay and it includes the high resin polish. I do then give it a coat of that Harley wax, really like that product - its the best wax I've used:)

Tonight Mathew........ I finished the N/S rebuild...... O/S tomorrow.....

A few pictures...... Looks better in person...... lol

Rear discs and handbrake shoes on the to buy asap list......

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

well today i started out with the aim of doing the passenger side rear sill as its on my to do list, but as i needed to move the car, battery was flat and when i took that off the battery, the battery tray was not looking good at all, so after a good wire brushing and some rust treatment its actually not looking bad now so quick spray tommorow and then a job that wasnt even on my radar will be done, the rear sill is still screaming at me weld me weld me :hammer:

I bled the brake system........ LR, RR, LF, RF, Front ABS, Rear ABS...... Going to redo again tomorrow as was melting in the heat today......

Just want to make sure ALL the old fluid is flushed through after being in there for 15 years.......lol

I got the sequence from the manual....... but have found a different one on another site...... Left rear, right front, left front, right rear, ABS actuator front, ABS actuator rear??

I went by the manual as I can't see Nissan writing the manual wrong.....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Finally got to do some work on my Zed

Firstly changed the cheap crap tuner wheel nuts that were on there, down side every one bent undoing them and mark the Rotas not best chuffed

Tried to repair damaged scuttle panel but its so knackered it broke again so in desperate need of at least a passenger side one if anyone is likely to have a spare to part with

Painted my wiper arms but think I have upset the wiper motor in the process, they were a bitch to get off too, looks like the first time ever, will have to check the motor and the mechanism.

Tried to change the stereo head unit, had a look at the horrific wiring and decided that's a job for tomorrow, hopefully with a little but of help.

Need to paint the Targa and windscreen trims to paint and finish above.

Enjoyed every minute though

Darren

Oh and she passed!

Since I've always hated how messy these engine bays are, and not wanting to delete hicas etc. I am making covers for them, make them from 1mm steel I guess? Thoughts?

Not a fan of engine covers as I believe the only cover should be the bonnet as you are adding weight with covers and disturbing the air flow and heat dissipation. I would clean and show as Nissan made it. But its your Z Ali and this is only my opinion. :)

It's an original idea, Ali. Not sure what it'll do to the airflow under the bonnet and (Jimmer'll love this one!) it now reminds me of a Gen 7 Celica......

Here's the thing, I would much prefer something like dougal's setup, really clean and neat:

But really I do not want to delete everything as the HICAS, cruise control, AC are all important features of the car, and useful too. Its really just to cover up the exposed wiring and pipes that i deem take away from the aesthetics of the bay.

Regarding cooling, does the hicas solenoid really need airflow? On the other side is just the fusebox and its not in the way of cooling the engine, so does airflow really matter?

Here's what it looks like at the moment:

My thought is that it looks awful.

Sorry.... you did ask.
