  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I hope not ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Don't know if my tweed is early or late. All I know is it's soon to be late... Bring forth the leather!

early, but yeah get that leather in there. Is it stock leather or retrimmed? My leather is stock so it's quite hard, but tbh I prefer harder leather as it makes me feel like im going to rip it less. Idk if thats just mine though.

I believe it's stock.. Might be wrong though. Im not too bothered if it's a bit hard cos my butt will soon soften it up.

If not there's always leather conditioner that'll help soften it a little. I wear jogging bottoms half my life anyway so nothing there to rip it lol

I would say harder leather would be easier to damage than a softer, more supple leather.

Seeing as we're entering my sphere of expertise here... :)

The OEM leather would have been reasonably supple originally but, after a couple of decades of sunlight and (probably) very little care, the entire structure dries out and it becomes hard and brittle and yes, easily damaged.

Now, all upholstery leather actually has a vinyl topcoat to it. This is printed with whatever grain pattern is required and also, in the case of automotive leather, is treated for UV-protection. Any kind of leather food is designed to penetrate this topcoat and nourish the cowhide beneath. The topcoat itself is super-thin so most of what you feel is actually the skin beneath it.

Automotive Nappa leather is also very different to "ordinary" Nappa leather, which is usually reserved for clothing. Auto Nappa is so called based on the grain pattern and it's suppleness, rather than it being "actual" Nappa leather hide.

It's designed to look good and wear well, as all upholstery leathers are, but the softer the finish the more susceptible to damage and marking it is.

It's probably hard to compare from pictures I've realised

Ali c I don't think you can tell what year your seats are originally from they could be from a 92 for all you know, ok your car maybe an 89 dosent mean your seats are, they could of been changed over the years, it's like saying, so im guessing the meat in my burger come from a cow called daisy, when it could come from another cow ....please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Good point, the 89 was veour if it helps, but to be honest I don't mind where it came from, I like the seats. I was just commenting on the toughness of leather my ones had compared to other peoples'

Incorrect...again!

Velour was fitted from 92 onwards. Tweed was on earlier models.

Well the car is an 89... And it has purplish velour...

I guess it was swapped. how do I know :)

Well it's obviously been changed in the past, maybe a previous owner changed it cause the interior was in poor condition or changed it because he prefers the velour to the tweed

It WAS swapped, that is all you need to know!

OK thanks, wasnt denying that it was.

On a different note, has anyone done anything to their Z today? [emoji1]

LOL - yes..... I drove it. In fact, I couldn't be arsed to swap the cars around on drive/in garage a couple of weeks back. Hence I have used the Zed daily for the past 3 weeks come tomorrow - and I have to say, it has just got better and better the more I have driven it....

It will be back to normal on Monday though; the Zed is booked in for a service and MOT. So I'll drop it off in the morning, nip home and pull the daily hack back out of the garage; and resume non-Zed commuting once more.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just to my local village garage mate.... They're happy to do a simple oil/filter/plugs/coolant change; plus MOT and general check-over - but they will also tell me if they can't do any other specialist repair works. I'm fine with that, as there's always Jimmer and co, if anything major needs doing...... Which, touch wood, hasn't happened for a while...:clover:

Today I had some continental sport contact 6 put on the rear wheels and fitted 4 new hard pipes. That's me set for the summer now, taking it up to Leeds tomorrow to break the tyres in, fingers crossed they don't wear out as quick as some say.

I put the 'new' wiring in for the side markers over xmas and then it took me a while getting the correct lights for their illumination.

Now all sorted and i'm happy, i found some 6 x red smd side marker lights, apart from just light up they actually do something else but more on that another day.

I always thought the one bulb in there didn't just spread it's light to my liking.

Anyway for now here's a pic, albeit red these do light up similar to my side indication which is also smd.........there's a clue there actually !!
