  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Well I've got a disability in my left elbow where it doesn't fully straighten so the gearstick feels like it's a little out of reach when I push it forward in to 1st and 3rd.. I'm kinda getting sick of squashing my fingers on the stereo fascia too.. Every time I go in to 3rd it's followed by a ah *****cks! Which takes away from the sound of the waste gates in a very unstylish manner! Lol.

Can't wait for the rims to arrive, they're being made at the moment, drilled and powder coated.. Spigot rings being made to the correct size too.

I know they'll look great..

Might be looking for some grooved and drilled discs too, I'm still running oem ones. They seem to work ok, but u can never have too much stopping power in a 300 huh..

Also looking for an exhaust system. The one fitted sounds nice but it is very quiet. I'm liking the look of the two oval pipes to fill the gaps in the rear bumper.

Cat back I think as I'm not sure about removing the cat yet. To be honest, I don't really know the advantage of having one or really what it actually does.. I just know they cost a bomb and people like to nick them off range rovers!? Lol..

Just to let you know. The gear stick isn't straight. If your punching the stero my bet is someone's fitted it backwards. Undo the pin rotate the stick 180 degrees and see how it feels. Good luck with the short shifter, you wouldn't be the first to have issues I'm afraid to say.

When I first got my car the adjusters for the coilovers were completey hidden apart from a hole on one side that wasn't even in line with it !!

Anyhow I bought Andy Isherwood's rear strut brace and many years ago crudely I cut out and fit, I could just get to the adjuster, see below .

Having seen Jaikai do something with his, this planted a seed so today I spent a bit of time putting things right.

I opened up what was there into a rectangle with forgiving corners.

Then sliced some gunmetal hose and hot glued all around on the underside, this is why I had the forgiving corners :thumbup1:.

100 times better, I know it needs a vac !!

Yeah nice job mate. I really need to cut holes in mine for access.

What's the issues with the short shift then Stephen? Ive never fitted one so just assumed being from japspeed they'd be tried and tested by now..

I'm fairly certain that the stick is on the right way round,I don't think it's ever been off by the look of it.. Although I could be wrong.. It might just be the fact I have premium pork sausages for fingers so they're a little thicker than the average chipolata.. Bit like the owner..

I'd like some advice on.the short shifter before I fit it, cos I don't need the issues if it's gonna be a pain in.the Harris.. I'd rather the pain in the knuckles than.cause any gearbox issues..

They aren't called "Short Shifters" they're not any shorter than an OEM shifter, they're called "Short Throw Shifters".

The total distance the top of the shifter moves is a bit less than an OEM shifter.

I used a Japanese manufactured C's Shifter on a Z32 OS Giken Close Ratio gearbox & it was perfect without any sign of gear engagement problems.

If your gearbox & linkages are in good condition you won't have any problems with a short throw shifter.

Don't expect faster gear changes or any performance gains changing to a short throw shifter.

There is something seriously wrong if your hand is anywhere near the dash when changing gears!

That actually does look like a factory finish mate!! Top job:thumbup1:

My advice is don't fit a short throw shifter! They're horrible. Renew the bushings in your stock shifter, it's a much nicer feel than the clunky notchy feel of a short throw.

The throw on the stock shifter isn't really that big anyway. Unless you're planning a race car, I would steer well clear of them. I've driven lots of Z32s with short throws and each one felt notchy and clunky. I personally think they're awful.

Just type it into the search bar and read the comments and experiences. The amount of members who have fitted them made by various manufactures and the vast majourity have the same complaint. That it makes gear engaugement tricker and the whole thing notchy. Most end up go back to stock sooner or later. As Si said try changing the bushes. Il have a measure later and see how far/close the knob is from the dash in gear.

It gets used every week but I can't spend any money on it at the mo, mainly because 3000 miles away this is happening :)

Love your Z Baz  Whats the spec on the Retro American Muscle Car?

Cheers Gaz it's a '76 Pontiac Firebird built for street/strip, 5.7 V8 with various engine mods, roll cage, bucket seats, lexan glass, race transmission, Uprated diff etc. will soon be transformed though as I'm mixing and matching with a '73 front end and a '74 Trans Am rear end lol
