  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Bloody cold drive up from London with temperature set at 10 degrees !

Repaired the green corrosion on multi plugs in nsf kick panel

Mean headlamps no longer wink at me

And now the running light comes on on the side I indicate too

Must be for when your sideways to allow you to see where your going?

Oh and discovered the air flow controller in glove box isn't connected!!??

My old wheels went to a new owner today ( thanks James for doing the spannering) she now looks like this.

Not seen her like that for quite some time20150403_132438.jpg

James turned up in a nice SWB Slick top he just bought and a very nice it was too and looked great with its new wheels on too.

Still jealous!

Today received news that my (was perfectly running) Zed is now broken and won't start after a plenum pull, bypass and some water pipe work.

The mechanic believes that the loom has given up after being disturbed and a wire or two as snapped.

The ECU now reports code 21, he's tried a different PTU, says there is fuel and the injectors are working, but there is no power to the coil packs now.

Looks like a Wiring Specialties RHD loom is required, a snip at nearly $500! :(

if a new loom is too expensive, i can't be that hard to figure which ones are damaged and route a fresh one from coils to ptu. Are any coils firing?

There is always power to the injectors even when the ignition is off, unless you have a later car or a mod. Code 21 is for no spark, could be as simple as a shit connector/connection. Start by investigating the usual culprits for code 21. Here's a start for you.

Whilst it's possible that a cable or connection has broken in the process, heat damage and age make this very possible. I very much doubt any components decided to phantomly break whilst sat there doing nothing, they didn't break in use they worked until the work was done. A new loom would be a. Great solution, if that's the issue. However a new CAS plug might of been all that was necessary.

You can use a lhd loom if they are cheaper.

Yes, LHD looms are cheaper, but only by $25 so might as well order the RHD one. :)

I've told my mechanic to spend a little more time investigating, but TBH I had intended to put a fresh loom on at some point as I feel many of these cars reliability problems are loom/connection related now. This might have just brought it forward a bit.

I'm happy to plough lots of money in to this car, I intend to keep it and want it to become one of the best near stock examples! A way to go though ATM. :(

I agree and discussed that with my mechanic, the car was running very nicely before and its very doubtful the PTU, coil packs, CAS or any other component has just died, but sadly the loom is a strong possibility.

Its a late '89' car, they don't get much earlier! Proud of this. :)

Mines an 89 too. Although I don't think much of it is actually original lol, it's a right Frankenstein.

Not long back from Jimmer's where my Z underwent pretty much a complete front suspension overhaul. Sterling work as always. Did away with the Midori style solid joints and boy, the car feels so much smoother and far more pleasant. I hate solid joints and wish to hell I'd never bothered.

Needs to go back for more work for complete refurbishment of all rear suspension bushings, single peice prop and replacement of all belts + my Brembo brake upgrade once I've gotten the calipers back from the powdercoaters, which should be next week hopefully! :)

Awesome dude

^^^ I binned my aftermarket suspension arms and coilovers when I first got my Zed, OEM all the way where possible and not too ridiculous on the pocket.

Just bought myself a brand new Nardi steering wheel too! :)
