  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Today I thought I’d get mine out of the garage and wash off all the dust that had settled on it from when I used it last week. Looked like I’d driven through sandstorm!

Taking appropriate care and preparation I pre-washed the car (without touching it) and the weather was nicely overcast. Then I rinse and proceed to wash and DISASTER, the sun comes out gleaming brightly! I finish up hastily and start to dry the car quickly but it’s too late, water marks everywhere!

My previous experience has proved to me how bad news this is as even with the proper chemicals, they still need a fair bit of pressure with a cloth to remove and the swirls jump out thick and fast in my anally pampered paint! I dried off the rest of the car quickly and put it back in the garage to conjure up a plan. I’ve had success in the past removing them with a clay bar so even though this was way more than I planned to do, I proceeded to clay the car which was removing the water marks, progress.

A panel wipe down proved this progress to be just lining up more work; paint marring all over the shop, doh! I drove the car back out of the garage to assess the “damage” in the sun and it looked a right mess. Half the bonnet swirled like mad from trying to remove them with a microfibre, and the other half marred and overlapping the swirls giving that horrible hazy, almost hologram effect!

At this point there was only really one thing to do; the car went back in the garage, the rest of the car was thoroughly clayed and out came the polisher. Way above what my plans for the day had accounted for now and I spend the next few hours whizzing round with the Scholl S40! Being a single garage I can only do the front, one side and the back at a time but by ignoring most defects other than what I had just caused, I managed to do the whole front end and the drivers side with one pass of the polisher in just a couple of hours. This is quite an achievement as I would usually spend a whole day finishing the bonnet alone removing every last minuscule defect but I managed to stay focused and not go too deep!

With it cut back to a nice finish I sealed the paint and then layered on a coat of Quik wax to protect the sealant, then took the car out and put it back in the garage the other way before doing the school run. Tomorrow I’ll do the back end and passenger side and I’ll be back to where I was yesterday (without the sand on it)!

Serious stuff huh?

I feel your pain Joely. Have you thought about buy one of those pop up shelters/gazebos? You can clip side panels to them to block the sun falling directly on the paint and it keeps it nice and cool to. Yes some people will think you look a nob but theyre probably thinking that anyway as you clean your car in a week more times than they do in a year.

Haven't done a thing, just pleased with this picture I took at a meet last weekend. Weren't there a red z thread here? Can't find it... 44a3c2eafa81449e5920d881edd367ff.jpg

It’s down in Videos and Pics bud:thumbup1:

Not a lot - as Darren still has my Zed.... But having spoken to him today he's going to have it ready in 3 - 4 weeks. I probably won't have it back in time for the Fat Lamb, but it will certainly be the weekend after. I'll just have to drive up to Cumbria in the AMG...

However, I did order my new wheels.....

https://www.stanceduk.com/jr6.html

8.5x18 ET35 front

9.5x18 ET40 rear (thanks for the tip Andrew, your set-up looks just fine sir!)

£847 all in for the custom drilling etc.

I also have received my new floor mats ordered from the RAC. I'll post a couple of pics later - but suffice to say, they are much nicer quality than the top line items from Autostyle; which are nearly double the price.

I predict that I will have some (ahem) nice enough floor mats and Cruise alloys up for sale very soon....

Here's a little preview on the new wheels - except I will still have a tk3 blue Zed....!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Its going to look awesome on those wheels Richard.

Thanks Gary.....

I always loved the old Azev wheels on my red Zed, even though they were only 17s, that classic 5-spoke deep dish design never lost its appeal. And since I cannot find anyone selling Azev As anymore, these looked the next best thing. Hopefully their quality will be near enough too:cool:

My Z had developed a nasty misfire a few weeks ago however, I've just not had the time to take a look at what it was.

Tonight, I checked all the connectors, Coilpack etc and thankfully, it turned out to just be a dodgy spark plug. New set ordered so it should be back to running sweet in the next couple of days!!
