  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Much like the rest of the classic and retro car community I've been doing that painful post hibernation MOT prep. Thankfully the MOT date itself fell on probably the first sunny day of the year so I could have the tops off and dry the old girl out a bit after the heater matrix disaster...

Winter is not conducive to drying a targa car out...

So, many hours on hands and knees sorting the little niggles like a lack of interior, tyres being right on the wear bars, sorting the broken wiring on one of the front fogs and of course the rear fog light pod refusing to function.

I don't know who wired it in, I don't want to know. What I know is that it was spliced on to a lump of blue cabling, which itself was poked though a hole drilled in the dash and spliced directly into the feed from the fog light switch in the right hand dash pod. I'm no auto electrician but even I know stuff should really go through at least a fuse if not a relay, and you don't want full working current flowing through the spindly dash wiring that's only designed to fire a relay.

Cue panic, then a moment of clarity.

I simply acquired some suitable wire from work poked it into the one working front fog through the condensation vent tube, crimped a bullet connector on and plugged it in where the bulb should go. No front fogs at all, which means the broken one is now no longer an MOT fail!

Front now powers a fog light bulb that had its 'bent' bayonet clip filed off to fit in the reverse light holder.

It's a bodge, but at least it's done properly, and I can sort the front fogs out properly when it's positive temperatures outside, and it's not ruddy dark!

But, at the end of all that.... it failed the MOT on a split in a steering rack gaiter. No advisories, although Mr MOT man did have to realign the headlights and slap some putty over a pinprick exhaust hole...

This is why you take biscuits folks...

I think you should. There's a balance between preserving an old car and enjoying it. :)

Mine gets plenty of use in the summer months. :) Driving it the winter doesn't hold any positives for me (despite missing it like hell). You can't use the power because the roads are a greasy filthy mess, the underside will be being eaten away by all the salt and the paint chipped to hell by all the grit.

I have told him several times to stop driving the Z in Winter but he wont listen Si. We need to gang up on him at the next AGM.

LOL - but the AGM is in the summer guys....

But seriously, as these cars get more rare - and considering the work being done, I think I will re-evaluate my winter use. I will probably still take it out over the winter - but only on those clear, dry days when the roads aren't salted. Joel still takes his out occasionally in winter - and the Zed doesn't like being left unused for long periods of time - so as long as I don't use it in poor conditions, it should be fine...... Maybe....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I take mine out in the winter when I can guarantee a totally salt free and dry day. I was going to take it out today however I can't be sure that there isn't salt dust on the roads.

If the car is left in a dry garage over the winter (many are damp), there's no problem. Mine always starts first turn of the key after winter layup and rarely have any issues with it.

Can we get Richard some sort of device ,years ago an invention was made where you had to blow into a machine to make sure you were not intoxicated before the car would start,In Richards case could we not rig it too a Barometer ?

Just get an ASBO tag attached to his car!

Or we get him Summer Tyres and keep his locking wheel nut hostage,it wil be lethal if he attempts to drive it in cold weather

Carried out a winter detox so far today. Cleans up pretty well for a 91 JDM that wasn’t overly looked after before it came to my possession.

Shame I have to use her as a daily atm. But normal car went bang before winter.

Cleaning the old girl has given me a renewed enthusiasm for the project and I’m really looking forward to better weather and longer days.

She does indeed. You would of had a heart attack if you saw it before [emoji15]

I really like the wheels. Had a few offers on them but not for sale ‘yet’. [emoji57] plans for the TT conversion and Frankenstein project need to progress a lot more first.

Front lower arms seem to be in decent condition, would benefit from a clean up and a powder coat but seem OK to me.

Mot day today.... Pleased to say she passed with a clean sheet again! Another year of the NemesiZX!! DSC_0127.jpg

Assuming you don't sell her! :sweatdrop:

Not yet Dutch.. Can't rule it out yet but going for a lot of work and a respray after the **** hit it on my drive last month.

Getting it all up to scratch either way, if I decide to sell or not, she still needs to be kept in good shape..

I changed the rear wiper seal yesterday and pleases to say there's no more waterfalls when I open the boot.

Got it booked in with jimmer to have a fair amount of work done so she should be all mechanically tip top by the end of that visit.

Just wanted to ask advice. I will need to replace the rear tyres soon and want some that are good grip and decent wear rate at the beat price.. I've heard pirelli p zero mentioned a lot but they have a price tag don't they?

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent bit of grip on the rear without the sting in the price?

The nankangs I have are pretty good but they're a little slippy under acceleration, they spin a little easy when the boost comes in.

There has been better tyre development since the pzeros. That's not to say their bad tyres. I have some pzeros on the back of my car and they were £120ish a piece.

Advan AD08R are pretty reasonably priced. As for quality, I'll have to let you know in a few weeks, but I've heard they're very good.

Thanks for the advice on the tyres lads.. I am tempted to go for nankangs again seeing as they seem to have made improvements since I bought these ones three years ago and to be honest the tyres are only needing to be changed because of the geometry being off a little. The mot guy said that they had worn down to the legal limit on the inner edge about an inch on the driver rear and the passenger front, but the rest of the tyres tread is remarkably good and actually looks like they would have lived another 3 years before needing to be changed, which I still find fairly incredible to be honest lol.

The grip on them is great in the dry but they do slip a little in the wet, nothing major unless youre giving it the beans but let's face it, that's when you need them to be gripping haha.

I'm booked in for a lot of work at powerzed this weekend so hopefully I'll have got on top of most of the issues she's beginning to get.

I have my fingers crossed that new pcv valves and a slight boost leak on the passenger side might cure the oily smoke from the exhaust and I can then know if the turbo is needing new seals or not AGAIN!

hoping to get a clutch slave changed and uprated clutch braided hose installed, rear crank seal, boost leak fixed, prop shaft changed and hopefully a service.

Working jimmer hard so gotta try not to break him

I might have to get my hands dirty to help get it all done on the day.

No sleep going to be a little bit of a downer though...

Whilst I remember, does anyone have some oem intercooler inlet/outlet hoses available? The two angled ones and the two weird bendy ones that attach the intercoolers to the hard pipes?

If so, can you let me know ASAP as I have a new guy who will be joining the club shortly that is in desperate need of them.

Thanks in advance guys and gals..
