  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

If I fined the otheres mate I'll send them if that's here the otheres must be

Nothing done as such but I think I've located the leak. The spoiler clip pictured below has been dripping (middle of the picture).

I suppose the first thing to try is some silicone around the base of the spoiler. Could also do with replacing that rusty retaining clip from the trim but I assume that's not available on its own?

As I can't drive her and ihadthe throttle cover off, I got busy sorting the dip for the throttle cover..

I must say I'm extremely pleased with the results.DSC_0281.jpg

Put a fresh MOT on her today (only cost £400 and an hour of my time explaining to the tester over the phone why he is putting the car through the wrong emissions test).

Does look awesome!

Are you able to clean a bit of the dip around "Nissan" to make it a bit more prominent or was that the style you were going for?

£400!?

I think the photo doesn't reallt show it so well but the red lettering is holographic and does really stand out.. I masked it off around the lettering so that the dip would cover right up to it so there's no gaps.. Dip can be a real pain to get clean lines around taped areas aswell so I'd aimed to cover right up to the lettering Evaansss.

Very happy with it and I'm hoping I've ironed out all the bugs with the plenum dip. If it comes out as good as this has then I will be one happy guy!

It's all going off to be fitted very soon so I have to get the plenum finished and the hard pipes. I'm starting to gather all the engine dress components together now ready to transform my engine bay in to the wonderful creation in my head... I'm sure it's not going to be disappointing when I see her again after the transformation... Very exciting times for me!

£400!?

Should have explained that I had some other work done on the car at the same time as the MOT.

Also as I am at work, and the car is 300 miles away, a chunk of the money was for collecting the car on a trailer and returning it to my house on a trailer.

Will the film cope with the heat from the plenum Paul?

Yes Joely, once the process is done, there's no longer any film left. It is used to transfer the ink to the paintwork and then the film is washed away as it's pva based and dissolves in water.

The ink is then sealed in to the paintwork with a few top coats of lacquer.

It will take just as much heat as the paintwork of the car.

It can also be polished so if the lacquer starts to mist up over time, you can Tcut it back to life and or apply another coat of lacquer.

Well, the plenum was dipped today and I have to say that the results are pretty damn good.. A small amount of touching up is required mainly due to the complexity of the shape causing the film to break around certain parts but all in all its a great result.. So I say to the pro's that say it couldn't be done... Put that in your pipe and light it!

This was taken just after being dipped and still needs lacquering which will be done tomorrow after I've finished the touching up.. Tomorrow it will be All shiny.

Hate to be picky but I believe it would have looked nicer to start from the other end so that the gaps from the film breaking would be on the other side, which you wouldn't see as often.

But the pattern came out good, you should be happy with the result from something that fiddly :)

If you look closely Alic, the gaps where the film broke are on the other side.. The small bits of colour you see are bits of plasticine which was used to block off the gaps between the plenum manifolds. The film stops exactly where I taped it off which is along the casting line naturally present in every plenum. Once the plenum is in place, the rocker covers and everything else which fits around the plenum will fit to that line..

The breaks in the film were caused by trapped air due to the complex shape. The part must be dipped at an angle to allow the air to escape naturally but the shape of the plenum doesn't allow for this. The result you see in the photo is about as perfect as you can get, believe me I have done an awful lot of homework on this project before taking the chance of ruining the plenum..

Once the touch up has been done, you will only notice the small imperfections in the print if you are seriously looking for them..

To be frank, I'm over the moon with the results considering the top hydrographic dipper in the USA said that it could not possibly be achieved..

It wouldn't have mattered which way the plenum was dipped, the angles of the plenum would have caused an imperfection somewhere along the line.. I believe I chose the correct way and ended up with as little touch up work required as possible given the complexity of the job..

So yup, well pleased!

That's fair enough I didn't realise you masked it off purposefully. :)

I painted the panels underneath the windscreen with new plastic paint. They where in pretty poor condition but now looks almost like new :-)

I also took the spoiler on the wiper and the plastic clips, one broke of course. I just need to paint the wipers now and for a new clean look

Love it, will look fantastic when all assembled, ticks my boxes anyway:thumbup:

I've just got back from Portugal so gonna concentrate on getting my TT back on the road as I've not driven it in 2 months. the slicktop will take a back burner until later in the year as I want to get the pontiac on the road in august and we're getting a new family car next week which I'm quite excited about :)

Too much on and no time to do it. FML

Took her to the body shop to run through all that needs doing, new rear arches fitted, sills straightening and treating, rear bumper de- stoned and painting, rear spoiler painted, nose panel, and rear quarters painted and inside rear hatch painting, may as well have whole car done?.but I'm not:),just waiting for price now.

Blimey Gray, that's a lot of work dude [emoji106]

Had some new rear tyres put on today. Yokohama 295/35 (x18) I previously had 275/35 and I knew that the rolling radius was going to get larger, but I didn't bargain on the quite so much extra tyre overhanging the wheel rim. Oh well greater rim protection I guess. Will definitely need to adjust the coilovers as they are rubbing on the fibre glass wheel arch/lip a bit.

I need to post some better pictures as it was a bit dark, and it doesn't really show the excess tyre I'm on about
