Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Just finished the rewire of the light harness loom. I couldn't allow the half ass job that had been done previously to connect to my cars wiring.. This is the old harness..DSC_0197.jpg

After buying all the correct nissan colour coded wire, I set about making the new harness and now it looks like this.. DSC_0198.jpg

Now on to the passenger side!

Got to say, I've seen some interesting attempts at wiring in my time, but this job looked like a monkey with a screwdriver and spanner could've done better!!

All done! Lights are wired and ready to be fitted. Now just got to wait for the good old British weather to bugger off so I can get the tiger seal out and fit them...

Looking out the window on this glorious bank holiday weekend, it could be a while!! :cursing:

Might have to make a start on the gold headlight inserts with halos... Hold on to your hat Funkysi, it's about to get bumpy mate lol.. Still trying to figure out your WTF on my previous post?? Are you feeling a disturbance in the force my friend??

Lighting!

Hi Dutch.. Looking wonderful as ever! How did you go about lighting those reflectors? Did you buy them ready to fit or did you fit your own leds?

Illuminated bumper markers were an option fitted to many Z32s. You can get those units already fitted with bulb holders. I fitted these about 10 years ago to mine and the wiring was fortunately there, so it was a 10 minute job.

I am sure someone like Baz would have a set.

Yeah my car had illuminated, amber ones from factory. Shortly after I got the car though one of the bulbs blew a hole in the housing! Got the red ones on here from Ted, but they didn't have holes for the bulb sockets (some don't) so just got that sorted yesterday.

The bulb sockets are same as the side indicators, but your car may not have the wiring.

I've run a set of wires from the number plate to either side as I had planned on lighting the reflectors a while back, just haven't got round to it as I have so many projects waiting to be started/finished lol.

They do look good, I'll have to see how difficult it will be to light mine as I have the bulbs here, just got to find a way to fit them in to the reflectors.

I think amber is the legal colour as they are side markers. Not sure if red is legal in England as red should only be visible from the rear of the vehicle and all side marker lamps should be amber. Might be worth a check on the legal side of those Dutch, just in case!

It might be ok cos it's so close to the rear end but i know that truck trailers and car trailers must only show amber side markers

You can buy ones already illuminated - I thought about just getting these http://300zxparts.co.uk/epages/42f12867-91b7-42c4-962e-d206bd7b0759.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/42f12867-91b7-42c4-962e-d206bd7b0759/Products/68

Oh yeah, it's probably illegal. But so are my track tyres and they've been through a test :tt2:

You can also get clear lenses, they're probably legal.

They're not illegal. Z32s pass SVA when they come into the country and get through - that tests for legalities and lighting configurations. There's also nothing noted in MOT guidelines.

You're fine with your red side markers.

But were red illuminated ones a factory option?

Of course, on earlier model Z32s, but only imports. UK/Euro models don't have them. Side marker illumination/reflectiveness is only something that's mandatory in Japan and the United States. It's not mandatory in the UK, but there's also no law or directive prohibiting them, certainly not on cars going through SVA.

That's quite interesting because there are regulations on the colour of side marker lights in the UK. I'm assuming the regs are only covering trailers and long vehicles.

Good news anyway, but it's always good to make sure..

OK, got a tech question regarding the fog light conversion for jap specs..

I opened the bulb access covers on my tail lights and found the red/green wire to my inner stop/tail light cut on the passenger side. I checked the driver side and can see that had been cut too but a live feed had been connected from the fog switch at the front of the car to the drivers side inner stop/tail light. I only noticed today but when the fog light is switched on,it also powers up my side and tail lights??? Is this normal?

I'm assuming that when I fit the venom lights to the car and wire them as they were supposed to be (ie original loom) I can then fit a seperate fog light in a different location and use the feed from the switch through the light and then down to earth on the chassis etc?

I was toying with using the lower centre lights in the centre panel for fogs but have decided to put the fog somewhere else.

Any thoughts on the wiring I have at present?

Had a good day at Lee Dents yesterday. He fitted my new Miester coilovers & a new power steering pump as the belt kept coming off. Also, as the car was on the ramp we saw the inner tyre wall on one of the rears had come away. Bit scarey as I'd just driven over an hour on it so had to get a new tyre as well. Car feels so good to drive now, still a bit bumpy on the rear but next job is to change more of the bushes but the coilovers have definately made a difference. Always a great day at Lee's, thanks again mate.

Jay, my car came with the red illuminated side markers, There's no problem with the NCT in Ireland mate:thumbup1:

Just be careful because the loom in the car the colour of wires does not match up, meaning it's red/green on the stock short bulb harness but to it it's not red/green to it, and either side has a different colour, so please note.

Think the red/green wire actually goes to the reverse light !!

Quite common for owners to crimp on the live cabin switch feed to the STOP part for the fog light, put on one of the r/h bulbs, not bright enough on the 'tail' part. Fog could of been put on both sides to balance things up but only one on the r/h side is required for test.

Yes just ground your new fog and put the live cabin to it.

I would always use the top two chambers btw, on the reverse panel for the fog, that way all the 'red' lines up.

Just because no point is made of it doesn't mean it's allowed! Probably be grand, but there's always the occasion they'll throw a fit about something small that's gone unnoticed in previous NCTs. Sure when I tested my Z they didn't check any of the lights at all

Latest pic from Keith of my Zed... Can't wait to see the finished result now! Then on to the finishing touches ready for Japfest;)

Got myself some rear disks and the front ones and pads are in the post, a parcel privicy blind and some boost pipes from an na... Which are too long so I will have to cut them shorter to fit in the TT. Then some other parts for other people.

I'm using the original wiring harness plug from the stock lights Andy. The wires pictured below are the original ones from the light harness plug DSC_0207.jpg

The red with green trace goes to the tail lights. The green with red trace goes to the brake lights. The green with yellow trace goes to the indicators and they all share the same common earth (black)

I had noted that the cars harness plug is as you say, different colour coding. However I have stayed with the light harness original loom colours in order that I can assure I connect the correct wire that coordinates with the correct bulb holders and of course to stay true to the original tail light panels wiring code in the manual.

I'm interested in using the rear centre panel upper chambers for the fog lights. I've never seen the back of one of these panels. Would you by any chance have a photo showing the rear of that panel?

Are the upper and lower chambers separated? I had always assumed that the upper and lower chambers were hollow joints between them so the light would spread between both.

Would I need to seperate the upper and lower chambers to stop light penetration from either bulb?

Or is each chamber supplied by a seperate bulb?

You understand it correctly, 2 chambers each side both lit with a single bulb, so you would need as you say to divide :).

Finally installed the aftermarket boost gauge through the firewall. Ditched the stero to accomdate it. Just need a little gauge plate now.
