Rear tyres rubbing arch when going over bumps, New shocks and springs installed!!

Morning all! Fitted my KYB AGX adjustable shocks and Ebach springs yesterday but have a slight problem with my Rear Tyres grinding on the arche's when going over bumps...

It's fine when driving along normally but if i go over a bump in the road you can hear it rubbing the arch as the wheel is trying to go up there..

Now my tyres are 285/35/18 on a 10j rim and are getting on a bit so thinking of maybe changing them to 285/30/18 so they are not as tall and may just help when going over bumps.

Was trying to find 275/30/18 on the net but that size doesn't exist and 265/35/18 on a 10j rim the tyres are too stretched on and the wheel rim's have no protection!

At the moment the tyres are quiet wide and just slightly stick out from the rear arches a fraction by a few mm.

Another option maybe would be adjustable upper rear arms but cause of the chunky tyres don't know if this would help!

Im currently running the rear KYB AGX on 7 and over big bumps it does grind, they only go up to 8... Had them on 5 originally but they would grind on the arche's more!

If anyone could help me out please here that would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

Would rolling the inner arches help?

I can't see 265's on a 10J being an issue, I would consider that to be about normal to be honest mate

When i got the alloys again about 10 years ago now they came with 265's on them but the alloy wheel rim was then exposed and got a bit of curbing!! Eventually when it was time to replace the tyres I went bigger to 285 and the tyres sit just nice now while giving protection to the rim.. Even had 295 on the back once but that was a little too wide... Haven't really got time to have the arche's rolled as my Z is my daily drive!

I've got 10j on the rear of my zed. i went for 165 35 18s and I haven't had any issues even with 2 of my mates crammed in the back seats.

Dam that's a brave bit of stretch there mate

Yeah I mean it was fine with standard shocks and springs, it's just since fitting the new suspension set up, it just sits a little too low!!

Not bothered about kerb protection then :whistling:.

That's cos the Eibachs lower the ride by about 25mm mate, swap them out for a new set of standard springs and you'll be good.

No matter what setting you put on the KYB's, it will not cure the problem as that only changes the stiffness.

lol that's beyond brave, id be worried it would pop off at a hint of a corner lol, not to mention at only 165 wide im surprised you ever have traction

why don't you just rll the arch and pop out the lip a touch then they will fit properly, its the offset that's causing you problems not the ride height.

id stick to 265 there fine on a 10j or maybe tuck the tops of the wheels under arches with a bit of camber you will need adjustable arms to do this though.

There were no issues reported before lowering the car, since lowering the car now there is. offsett clearly had them towards the edge of the arch to begin with, but he can't change that aspect now.

Easiest solution is to put the stock height back, other than that some arch rolling and manipulating of the liner to suit the arch rolling by pulling upwards and outwards a couple of mm.

ive got 275/30/19's on the rear and lowered, got no rubbing here, whats your offset, it could be that, as i have 10j at the rear of mine, but only a +35 offset.

Smithy i have kyb shocks with eibach springs on my blue zed and its standard ride height with the above wheels on, i never got rubbing?. so i would imaging its down to what shocks he has. they may actually be too much spring rate on them.

The shocks he says are simply KYB adjustables, basic and very common shock for zeds.

It may well now be the offsett is a problem caused tho by lowering the car, he can hardly change the offsett now to bring the wheels in now tho eh?

Even adjustable arms at couple hundred bucks and fitting, "may" give him enough room, but at the cost of tyres wearing more quickly and unevenely? and not cheap tyres either....

I have the same problem with BC Coilovers where ive lowered the height.. where the rim heads in it catches when you hit a bump sometimes..

only answer is as smithy says, raise the height, reduce the offset or manipulate the wings a little.. ot put up with the occasional rubbing.. lol..

i like the stance of the car with the wheels level with the rims so dont want to alter it...

i have raised th height of the car a little to reduce the contact though...

Rolling the arches with an arch rolling tool is a really simple fix and doesn't take long, flaring the arches requires a little more finesse' however and quite a bit of patience (I lack both!)

You know what I meant.... ( if you don't then I meant 265)

Its because I wrote it on my nexus, and I have sausage fingers.... (Which my other half quite enjoys) ;)

I had my suspicions lol.

If you roll the arches though Pez how do you still get the inner covers to fit as those wont stretch?

If you look at the tread (the black line) you can see where it's been rubbing and cutting in...

exactly the same as mine.. lol.. im going to go the rolled route I think, but the stance on that looks great.. be a shame to change it...
