i am well versed in launching the manual TT when the need arrises ..but my big 4x4 is an Auto V8 5.5 amg and no matter how hard i try from the lights i can not get it to launch with any revs built on.....i stand on the brake and and build the revs but it just goes forward Against the brake the brakes are spot on so i knwo its not them.....i would have thought the tourque convertor would allow some slip to enable a build up of revs ......its not that i need to launch it as even in D for do it without using the manual option it will crack 60 in about 6 seconds .....but if i need to ......what am i doing wrong ???:huh:

Can you not build the revs in neutral then drop it into d? Dunno if thats healthy for the box (prob not lol) but thats how I used to launch my auto.

Do not build RPM and drop it in to Drive ... u can pop the box doing that ...

 

the only way of doing it is foot on brake build rpm then off u go but this all so can damage the box over time

erm, possibly trying to get a huge tank like that to do 0-60 faster than 6 secs? With most modern autoboxes, just tromp on the loud pedal and let the millions of deutschmarks spent by AMG and Merc researching their engines and autoboxes to do their stuff.

....I agree there Mike, there's no need for "launch" tactics; all I do if I want a fast get away is press the accelerator about half way to take off, then once moving I floor it! My SLK350 easily rockets to 60 in around 5 second like that if need be.

LOL!! Next PM to me will be about how to change the torque converter I feel (or many other components in the transmission!) :lol:

In the Zed at Santa Pod, I just press on the brakes with all my might and build the revs up. Once it didn't really work and I ended up doing an impromptu burnout at the line whilst the other car was staging. Got told off for it too!
