Well, first time taking my car up the strip at pod, really need to work on my launch as got no launch controller. had 4 runs in total went up against markdarby. i think we could of had bets on who was going to blow up first on that first run, i had my boost controller off for the first run as well, did 3 runs in the right hand lane, and the last in the left hand.

Anyway here are my times.

Run 1. 15.03 @101.67mph (boost controller off 9psi)

Run 2. 14.93 @105.43mph (boost controller on high 18psi)

Run 3. 14.43 @103.54mph (Boost controller on high 18psi)

Run 4. 15.05 @93.5mph (boost controller on high 18psi)

Kept bogging down on take off as not enough revs for a decent launch, and when watching the video replay back looks like i was just powering down a motor way rather than drag racing, also need to get my dials out and sort out my rev counter as the needle is sticking at the 4k revs mark making gear changes hard to judge.

Oh and before you ask, mark won between us, but was still fun going up against another 300zx, i think that boot install really helped him stick that power down lol

i was suffering at the launch on 18psi, the first run i had, i changed gear from 1st to 2nd before id even hit boost, be good once ive got a bit of practice down and sort out the launches.

you did very well vody ..

still finding it hard to believe ive got the turbos it says i have, as i said noz is running stock turbos on his zed at 17psi and getting faster results, although his is a auto.

you need to start driving it properly! I can say that now having met you today :)

seriously though, you need to rev much higher, use the power band you have and it will drop back into it again when you change up. Don't be afraid to hit the limiter, you can work on that bit later

was good to meet you too matey, was a bit strange trying to get over the fear of blowing the engine up and getting good times, if you hear my video carefully, you can hear that i was shifting before i hit the full powerband, boost doesnt start till 4k revs, i must of been changing at around 5k revs, which is actually very short of the top end power scale on my dyno sheet, which is around 5.5k to 6.5k peak power, doesnt help when taco was sticking at 4k LOL so having to bang the dash to get it to drop back when lifting off the throttle lol

exactly, you hardly went into boost at all, which why your mph is more like an N/A one. You need to rev it till at least 7000 to drop you back into boost on the next gear

that boost is scarey though....LOL

You coming next year, we can talk properly about it and go over a few things. i can understand what Hamilton was saying now about training your mind to accept that a F1 car can take a corner at 140mph while your head is screaming, your going to loose grip and come off the track, i need to get over the fear of blowing the car up at 7k revs and get down that track better.

Anyway here are my times.

Run 3. 14.43 @103.54mph 60ft 2.45 (Boost controller on high 18psi)

Run 4. 15.05 @93.5mph 60ft 2.84 (boost controller on high 18psi)

Like this.... so you can see all the info in one line..

Here are mine......................with some comments on what was happening.

1. 15.09 @ 89.62 60ft 2.17. Goodish launch but lifted off early to go into 4th gear

2. 15.15 @92.53 60ft 2.13. Goodish launch kept the foot well down in 3rd across the line. So better terminal

3. 15.12 @ 92.16 60ft 2.13 Repeat performance. Could have been better as I bogged down a little off the line despite launching at almost 5000rpm

4 15.24 @ 90.84. 60ft 2.07. Nailed it off the line with a full burnout and almost 6000rpm launch . 60ft time within 1/100th of my PB.

ET poor to to high rev "stutter" in 2nd and 3rd.

Overall. Strong headwind lowered all my terminals from 94/95 mph which is where I should be.

Track prep good for launch but conditions not so good at top end due to high wind. This affects lower powered large cars more than little cars or cars with high BHP.

Only four runs to get it all together just isnt enough really.

just for comparison here is a run from York last week

14.83 @ 94.35mph. 2.23 60ft

Run 1. 15.03 @101.67mph 60ft 2.57 (boost controller off 9psi) Bogged down off the start, gear changed from 1st to 2nd before hitting boost.

Run 2. 14.93 @105.43mph 60ft 2.80 (boost controller on high 18psi) Wheel span on start, still bogged down, but didnt lift until over the line.

Run 3. 14.43 @103.54mph 60ft 2.45 (Boost controller on high 18psi) Good grip from start, still bogged down though lol, again didnt lift till over the line

Run 4. 15.05 @93.5mph 60ft 2.84 (boost controller on high 18psi) Completely fecked the start so bogged down again, lifted before i got to the line.

that pretty much sums it up. basically not enough high revs off the line, runs 2 / 3 / 4 even gave me wheels a bit of a spin. 4th run, completely failed at doing it correctly as couldnt seem to get staged, then when i was it went straight to green lol so i just thought F it and pulled away.

Nice one Vods (and you Pete). I reckon you'll get the bug now Ian :cool3: And with other Zed owners like Pete and James around to advise and encourage you're times will tumble. I'd be like you and be waiting for it to go BANG!!

il be joining you next year ian this is something i plan to get ticked off my bucket list is throwing the zed down pods strip. :)

 after the first run i said to mark, "i think i need bigger turbos" lol, when what i actually meant was, "i think i need to learn how to use the ones ive got already"

I took pete's advice, i concentrated on the lights, didn't bother about who was beside me once i was on the strip, and it does actually settle the nerves some what.

Its awesome mate, even if i didn't get the times i was thinking it should be running, the experience alone of going down that famous bit of rubber at pod, is awesome enough on its own not to worry about that. but it is addictive.

Always good to be a good listener when new at something. and i appreciate every bit of help as well from the people who have been doing it far longer than i have, love this community.

well thats the thing mate we can all sit here banging on about how quick our zed is and even chuck out dyno figures but until the car is out on track or on the strip its all just numbers. because you the driver control how that power is used. japfest this yery i was very impressed to see how quick essebees car was only to realise after chatting with him it was virtually stock, good driver. :)

Nice one lads, not bad runs really for your 1st time , have you got any vids :D

exactly i really need to learn how to use those turbos, its got the potential there, i just need to learn to use it with out the fear of breaking something lol

Oh and the fact when 18psi kicks in, its getting over the fear of loosing the back end, which to be honest once you are moving there is so much grip on that strip at pod i should of just gunned it

i hate stuff like that lol i used to do alot of travelling when i used to ride bmx and sometimes id not push myself and id know i wouldnt be going back to that place for a while and id spend the whole next week back from being on tour kicking myself for not doing xyz then i started doing xyz when i came to me which hurt lol but at least i didnt regret it. better to do something and regret something that went wrong, than regret never doing anything.

Can others who ran please post time up on this thread??

It will help us all learn.

Run 1 16.82 @ 81.98 60ft @ 2.75 - first ever attempt, spun too much off the line

Run 2. 16.87 @ 82.58 60ft @ 2.71 - stumbled at start (let the clutch out too quick)

Run 3. 16.73 @ 82.42 60ft @ 2.63 - prayed my car wouldn't explode

Run 4. 16.11 @ 84.11 60ft @ 2.28 - good start and gave it everything seeing as it was my last run!

please bare in mind while your all wetting yourselfs laughing at my figures that my car is an n/a and this was the first time i have every got involved.
