Hi to my fellow 300zx fans.

My name is Ryan, and im in the Southwest UK (Somerset area)

Im new to the 300zx, so thought I would sign up and do some research before I part with hard earned cash.

Looking forward to this interesting read.

Anyway, I have NEVER owned a 300zx TT, but almost bought on a few years ago. Now Im returning to the import scene, its number one on my list this time round. Previous imports I have owned are three GTO TT's, an R33 GTS, three MR2 Tubbies, an S14 200sx and 2 FTO GPX Mivecs. However about 3 years ago, I started driving more modern European cars, like the ST500 and currently a DS3r.

I want the 300zx to be my daily runner, work is 12 miles each way, so I think im going to need remote start to pre warm the engine, and definately a turbo timer, to let it cool sufficiently after. (Although I will only be pottering along to work) There is no stationary traffic on my journey ever, and once i leave my street, There isnt any speed limits other than national on my entire journey to work, which I wont exceed - thats not a joke btw, im getting old!

Thought I would introduce myself, I will be looking to buy in about 4-6 weeks, and would like to then sell the DS3r, at which point I will probably get a full body original colour respray and complete engine rebuild. Again, the costs of the engine and turbo's rebuild is another thing im here to research. I dont want to modify it, just restore it to its original standard.

Sorry, just adding notes for my own reference: EGR, PCV's and Fuel Pressure Regulator and Fuel Dampener

Welcome to the club Ryan, good luck with your search for a Z :)

Welcome to the club Ryan - and good luck in your search for a 300zx!

As for the "warming up of the engine" don't do it mate!! Modern cars don't need it - you're better off getting in and driving off right away, letting the engine warm up whilst moving. And the 300zx is no exception to this!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ideal, Thanks Baz and Richard.

That guide is great, especially on how to check for ECU Code errors etc...

Hopefully I can make some friends here, local to some cars im going to view, so I have an experienced owners view of the vehicle too. Would never buy a used car without RAC inspection, (including compression tests)

Welcome to the club Ryan.

^ as Richard says, the engine will be happier warming up under load. if you're only 'pottering' to work then you won't need a turbo timer either. Their main purpose is to allow the engine to continue to run and oil to be circulated around the turbos once you leave the car until they've stopped spinning. I think a lot of people prefer to stay off boost for the last few mins or so of their journey than use the timer.

Hi EvoluZion, Taken on board, prob much better, as you have natural air cooling running through at same time. Makes sense.

Your 300 looks great, I LOVE the interior trim, and the blue looks so good on them too.

Z32Bolt, is there a linky to a website for jimmer? Bristol, that is ideal.

Not sure if to buy and have it sent somewhere like that immediately, before I start using it as a daily runner. I love restoring cars, have done so many in the last 12 years :s

I swore down, I would keep it 100% original, but this forum is putting dark thoughts in my head, with daZverts front bumper, and evoluZions interior Im being tempted to make a few changes to stock, however, mechanically, there is no need for extra power, besides, I don't want a heart attack - or a second mortgage! I think if I keep it subtle, but just "modernize" it a little. keeping the original parts too, then it should be all good :D

I got a few eyed up, but not ringing round till cash is in my hand. Not going to waste peoples time. Paying for it ou of overtime, so the other lady in my life dont get jealous lol

there is a very stock example for sale atm if i remeber rightly but he doesnt want it to be modified. the temptation to modify these motors is er well hard to resist.

Here are a couple of my previous projects.

The FTO wasnt finished in this pic, replaced wheels, and had mesh in the front bumper when completed. The bumper was a one of a kind designed by myself in autocad and produced by my brother who is a carbon composites engineer (However he made it from fibreglass)

FTO.jpg

This was my 200sx, which I fully refurbed, full original colour respray, refurbed oem alloys, new seals everywhere, and a totally rebuilt SR20DET

Ryssexy200SX-1.jpg

My Earlier Jap Tuning Days, MR2. A little more naive back then (this isnt subtle at all)

MR2.jpg

My ST500, which I got rid of about 2 years ago (Photo taken same spot as 200sx one lol):

Why did I get a Fiesta ST500? I dont know, was supposed to be more practical, but practicality isnt so important afteral, so why not get a fairlady :D

Welcome to the forum Ryan. As you can see, plenty of help and advice on here. Good luck in your search.

http://300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?160913-Bought-my-TT-300ZX-today-D

Next purchase will be membership, then insurance and road tax.

I look forward to being a long standing member of the Z community, and will hopefully be able to have my car sat looking great amoungst many of the great examples I have already seen on the club.

:D

If you need any bits of kits like Daz bumper etc just give me a shout :)

I had a kitted fto and mr2. i made the kits for these aswell lol!!

CIMG0176.jpg

not got a pic of the mr2 on photobucket but it was one of the 1st in the uk to have the full border kit with spoiler and bonnet. they seem to be eveywhere now :(

  • Author

lol, yes I built a border one too lmao.

Those skirts on the FTO look like DCs - I love them.

I think I would like a bumper like DaZverts - looks great. Just need to see a few more pics before deciding, and if I dont, its not because I dont like it, its because its not subtle enough lmao.

I wouldnt go veilside again, as its too in your face and I live on a granny estate, dont want to upset the neighbours, make them think my car is gonna eat there children and spit them out lol.

yeah the dc skirts and front bumper. The scarab one is a very nice bumper but you will need skirts to lower the sides as its a deep bumper.

Who gives a fook what other people think

  • Author

lmao. there is skirts on the car. I need to try get some pics up. only got a few as havent collected car yet.
