This thread is to gauge the interest in buying a module to enable the mirrors on a JDM zed to auto fold and open utilising the ignition/key.

The switch can be used as normal, so will not affect it working manually, but have been asked many a time about the facility to auto fold.

Will also work in conjunction with a turbo timer:punk:

I have had an email from an avid Jap car owner who has made the modules that will work with our JDM mirror switches and will auto fold when the key in the ignition is turned off and will open again when the key is turned. Im looking at having it operate utilising the door solenoids to open and fold using the key fob.

Here are a couple of links to the unit and in action

Get your names down if you are interested in a group buy, we need at least 20 names to have the modules made at a price of £21 inc paypal fees and postage

i asume it can be wired to operate when the mirror switch is in the middle position only?

Hi all

I'm the guy that makes these modules. I've just recently run a successful GB on the Pulsar GTiR Owner's Club and the GTR Register had these in their club shop until recently too (I made a limited run for them). All Nissan's of a certain age share the same switchgear. Fitting is simple, all the connections are made on the back of the switch except for one permanent live (radio/hazzards/etc) that needs to be run to the unit.

If there are any questions, I'll subscribe to this thread and keep an eye on it.

If there are at least 20 interested parties, I'll pay my membership dues and create a 'proper' GB thread (with Groover's blessing).

Mirror switch ‘IN’ – The mirrors fold in and stay in with ignition on or off.

Mirror switch ‘NEUTRAL’ - The mirrors fold in and stay in with ignition on or off.

Mirror switch ‘OUT’ – The mirrors will fold in and out automatically when switching the ignition off and on.

me to. ive not clicked on the link (slow laptop) are they easy to fit??

:)

Put me down for one Graham please, pretty reasonable enough at £21.00.

Might as well have it with me for when I go and visit my auto electrician guy up here.

Like the way it could work with my turbo timer.

Thank you

mine only cost a £5 and works fine, it not hard to do. If only I could work out how to get a small vid up I would show you....!

Yup, i'll have one.

Is it possible to have the mirrors out with the ignition off? ie, when washing the car, taking pics etc...

yeah just flick the switch to the out position :)

I think

That would suck at a car show or a meet, everyones mirrors will be in lol

This is very true as control is lost, surely this format below would be better for the module

Mirror switch ‘OUT’ – The mirrors fold out and stay out with ignition on or off.

Mirror switch ‘IN’ - The mirrors fold in and stay in with ignition on or off.

Mirror switch ‘NEUTRAL’ – The mirrors will fold in and out automatically when switching the ignition off and on.

I have mentioned to Graham about this before, would you want the mirrors in and out every time you turn the key so therefore on every trip you make, at least if the module did the above you could in fact turn the feature off

Defo. The feature should only work with switch in neutral position

As Steve is on the Island, i can have a meet up with him and fit one and let you know. Im sure we can come up with the option to suit all.

Blame Nissan for their short-sightedness.

The way they've wired the switch up precludes operation in this manner. That's the only way I can get it to work. You could, however, add a switch on the permanent live wire to override the module's operation when the ignition was off. This would stop the mirrors folding in until your added switch was turned off and the auto feature would resume.

It should be noted that, again thanks to Nissan, the mirrors will fold out with the 'Accessory' position of the ignition key as well as 'On'.
