As soon as I have reached my target speed of 180mph (gps) in this car I have to move on to faster things.

The challenge is to hit 200mph before I'm 30. I got just under 4 years left. Set a bet with my mate years and years ago. First one to hit 200mph in their own car before they're 30.

 

Some things I've read in forums have made me wonder though....

Is the Zed capable of the fabled 200mph mark with a little work...?

stella added a link to my original project which among other things was to achieve 200 mph in the zed. If my only aim was the 200 mph then it would have been achievable in theory anyway. My car definitely has the power but the two things which make it more difficult is the gearing and aerodynamics. I looked for another gearbox and considered a special build with a longer final drive ratio but cost was prohibitive. We then worked out that we could get 198 mph with what we had and if we was to use slightly bigger wheels then it 'was possible'. I then got interested in racing it at TOTB and time attack so changed my thoughts on it. At the end of this year I will consider what to do but I might give it another shot if I've got the funds. I have a contact who can get us track time at Bruntingthorpe so if you're gonna have a go let me know and we can sort it :)

 

By the way about 4 cars hit over 190 mph at TOTB but did so in about half a mile so I think they would have easily done the 200 given a slightly longer run :)

I found this on youtube, I guess it say how hard it is to make 200mph.

I remember reading somewhere that it takes 100 horsepower to get from 199mph to 200mph due to aerodynamic resistant.

Yeah, I was hoping to stay away from zee Germans. My bro (older) looked into getting an M5 not long after I got my Zed and finally kicked his Civic Type-R's ass. Luckily he still hasn't so I am faster than him. Anyone with an older brother will know how much this makes me smile.

Wish I'd never sold it really, the stories on reliability are to be taken with a pinch of salt, find a good one and you can't go wrong

At the time I had an itch to get a Audi RS6 which I did, and in my mind I couldn't justify running to V8 cars, so I sold my Volvo V70R and the Cerb

 

 

and bought this beast

 

 

 

Although the RS6 was a great car, it was consistantly having visits to the dealer for one thing or another, not what I was expecting. I thought of Audi as a premium brand and didn't expect things like the suspension to be so fragile given that the car had only done 18k miles when I bought it. So after 18 months of ownership and the recession kicking in I sold up and bought the Zed. I have always had a soft for turbo'd cars and the Zed was a car that I had admired when it first came out and is a keeper.

 

But the Cerbera is in a league of it's own, classic design, V8 TVR developed engine with a flat plane crank engine, plus its British makes it a very special car. Oh and exhaust sound was to die for. IMO the best TVR to date with the possible excepetion of the Sagaris but then they have the troublesome Speed Six engine. One day I will defo buy another even if I am old and grey, :wheelchair:lol.

Sadly mate, if you want an easy route to 200mph, the fast German machines are probably the best way to go. Especially if it's your daily driver!

 

Remember 5th Gear when they tried this with a V8 Lotus Esprit? The idea was to buy and modify a car to hit 200mph on a "reasonable" budget..... Even with Tiff driving it, and all the panel gaps gaffa taped to improve aerodynamics, he still couldn't do it.

 

Theoretically a 300zx might see 200mph, but at what cost (financially and reliability-wise)? And yes, a Mk4 Supra or Skyline might be easier to tune for sufficient power - but to buy and mod the car will cost more than that £18k M5. If you have a daily driver and cost is not a major consideration, then go for it with your Z. It'll be an interesting project:yes:

Sicknote (he owns the pub that has held a couple of zed meets as well as a not station) is building a car that will crack 200mph easily, it has not been cheap or easy, think it has taken well over nine months to fit and get his sequential gearbox set up for it, if his goal was to just hit 200 the viper box he did have in it would of done it but as its a track toy the build is more complicated, it's also running over 1000bhp.
